This pocket travel router is best at turning hotel, cruise, RV, and campsite internet into one shared network for all your devices. It handles captive portals well after firmware updates, supports OpenVPN and WireGuard, and can route everything through a VPN or Tailscale for home access. It also works as a repeater, access point, or extender, with USB C power and international plugs adding convenience. Main drawbacks are occasional speed drops, limited LAN ports, and some hotel or cruise networks blocking it. A compact pick for travel setups that need flexible networking.

A lot motels/hotels only allow only one device to connect per room. Using this router, you connect this to their wifi network and then you can connect your laptop, phone, tablet, streaming devices and anything else you may have to this router. The hotel network only sees one device.
Thank you for the explanation. What about the peeps using this with an actual data plan from someone like tMobile? Isn't that really expensive instead of getting an overseas data plan for your phone?

FYI, most Android phones already have WiFi sharing feature built-in. I use it on cruises all the time.

Make sure you're not connected to vpn and turn off DNS Rebinding. You can go back and turn it on after you connect to the ship's portal
I was going to ask if this would work on a cruise ship, thanks for your response.

Royal Caribbean bans these now and scans your luggage for them. How are you planning o get it onboard?
They'd have to ban every Android phone because WiFi sharing is a built-in feature.

unfortunately this doesn't have EAP feature, which most of the time I used the router to login into hotel wifi network whenever the wifi is weaker

It can already be used as a wireless repeater, what part of EAP are you needing?

Decent deal. They do have a Wifi 7 model coming, but if your use is travel, that is unlikely to matter unless you commonly connect to very fast networks or do things peer to peer amongst multiple wireless devices on the network. You will likely get a higher Wireguard throughput (like on the WiFI 7 Slate model) if that is important to you.

Android worked on RC, didn't work on MSC. On MSC this would not work neither, and will ruin your connection

Wondering if anyone knows how well this works with Royal Caribbean cruise line? So I can just buy one device for their Internet instead of multiple.
I use the gl-a-1300 for Royal Caribbean WIFI sharing quite often. Haven't had an issue. I was considering this MT3000 to replace it, but don't see a need to do that just yet.

You can just set up a VPN server at your house and have your device VPN to it. Or you could use one of these that'll VPN back home.

You can also set up a tailscale network that uses your home as an end point.
What does using home as end point mean?

You can also get yourself a small 4-5 port switch that powers via usb-c. Unifi makes one.
How is the switch the same as this travel router?

We are talking about different scenarios. I'm talking about your own device like a work laptop knowing your location by scanning WiFi not the remote device or gateway you'reconnecting to, randomized MAC doesn't matter in that scenario.
VPN will not help with that.

Lots of people use these routers to hide their physical locations from their own work laptops. That's the scenario
Yes you are right to bring this up. Once a device has determined its accurate physical location via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/cellular scanning/geolocation, applications and websites (if granted permission) can request this location data directly from the device's operating system, entirely bypassing the VPN's IP address masking.

You create a vpn server at your house, which would be the end point your work computer connects to so your device looks like it is at home.

It's not, if you need more ports, connect a mini switch.

Would anyone use this at home for every day purpose? My linksys router stopped working right after I changed network password

Same here GL-A1300 is a beast. Taken it all over the world, have run on batteries and all sorts of diff usb-c cables and power sources. It just does it's job and keeps going like the energizer bunny.
