Edit: Everything below is still accurate, but the same laptop with a 1TB SSD is on Lenovo right now for $45~ less. Link below. Downside is worse return policy compared to "through end of January in any walmart" and a much more expensive accidental damage/extended warranty if that is something you want. But if you are sure you want this laptop (and it's a great one) and don't want the increased warranty coverage, grab the linkbelow.

So obviously we just had this exact laptop for sale from Walmart Direct for $950, and if you have a time machine great, if you don't though I think at $1050 this is still basically the gaming laptop deal to beat at the 5060 level of the market. Incredible screen, good performance, great build quality, lightweigh (for a gaming laptop 4.3~lbs). And unlike the I7 for $1200 that has been promoted a good bit, this gets 6-7 hours of battery on web browsing, the I7 gets under 2. I know because I bought the I7 when it first came out. Loved everything, but the battery life was basically unusuable.

Other things to note, yes there is a second open SSD slot, and yes a second open DRAM slot, so you can add a 16 GB stick to go to 32 (and improve performance some) or replace both and go way way higher.

Sold by Antonline on Walmart FULFILLED BY WALMART which means it has the Walmart returns through end of January and returns to any store, so you can buy this and slow roll for a better deal.

Also the 3 year allstate warranty with drop and accident protection is $88, $98 for 4 years. Specs ripped from the $949 post.

This Legion 5 stands out as a strong gaming laptop for its 15.1 inch OLED WQXGA 165 hertz display, Ryzen 7 260, and RTX 5060 combo, with the screen drawing especially high praise for brightness, color, and overall eye candy. The build feels solid, and the AMD model is described as getting around 6 hours of battery life, while Walmart fulfillment and free returns through January 31 reduce the risk of buying now. The main knocks are the price jumping from $949 a few days earlier, the 16 gigabytes of RAM not being upgradeable, and the need to avoid an NVMe heatsink inside the system. A good fit if the display and return window matter most.

Common Questions (6)

  • Yes. It can be returned to any Walmart store through Jan. 31, which makes buying now lower-risk if a better sale appears later. That return window is a major reason this higher price is still considered worthwhile for shoppers who want the laptop immediately.

  • The AMD Ryzen 7 260 model is reported to get around 6 hours of battery life. That is much better than the i7 14700 version, which was reported at about 2 hours and described as effectively desktop-like when unplugged.

  • No, a heatsink-equipped NVMe reportedly does not fit inside the system. The safer option is to use a drive without a heatsink or remove the heatsink before installation, since the bottom cover can be difficult to close cleanly otherwise.

  • If you are not buying immediately, waiting can make sense because this same laptop was $949 just a few days earlier and more Lenovo sales are expected around BF/CM and weekend promos. If you need a gaming laptop today, though, this config is still described as one of the strongest options under roughly $1200.

  • Yes if display quality matters: the OLED panel is 100% DCI-P3, brighter, and has a 165Hz refresh rate, with users describing it as especially vivid and color-accurate. It also adds a larger battery and lighter weight versus the Micro Center IPS version, which helps justify the premium for many buyers.

  • It should run Battlefield 6 well, but not maxed out at WQXGA with very high frame rates. The RTX 5060 class is described as near the recommended range, while fully maxing BF6 at that resolution is said to be unrealistic even for much faster laptop GPUs.

So, basically, me just explaining to you why this is not that good of a deal in plain and simple words makes me a condescending prick? Or are you triggered, just because I proved this isn't that good of a deal that you make it out to be? I provided mere facts as to why buyers should wait, as there are going to be sales on this Legion and more in the coming days, and so it will be worth to just wait a few days and not months. Almost every weekend, we get deals via Lenovo's website that the staff member iconian regularly posts.
Dr. W, I agree with fatguypoolshark, almost every post I see from you is condescending. The fact that you post deals and thank yourself says a lot about you. This (SD) is your life and you take it too seriously. Thanks for the deals, but stop being a jerk.

I bought this on the previous $949 deal. Installed a Samsung 990 PRO 2TB Internal SSD with heatsink in the second SSD slot. When putting the bottom plate back on, I noticed it was very difficult to get the screw back in that is at/near the 2nd SSD slot. Should I have removed the thermal paste that was on the thin sheet of copper above where the 2nd SSD goes since the SSD already has a heatsink? Since I was able to finally get the back closed, should I just leave it be? Or should I return the SSD with heatsink and get one without? Thank in advance for any guidance.

Just bought the i7 14700. Battery Life suck major a$$. Only 2 Hours on aggressive energy saving watching a video. I would love to get this but I'm leaving the country in 10 days. I'm afraid my funds won't be released in time to purchase this one. Man I'm so angry.

Yeah I keep posting trying to warn people about the I7 14700 of this laptop. Honestly this is one of the best laptops I've ever seen in any generation at this price point, but that I7 basically turns it into a desktop. 2 hours of battery life new means in 18 months you likely have a brick that can barely be unplugged to move rooms without dying Frown.

Did you already return the 14700? If not, what you might try is a return and ask them to give you the refund in gift cards instore instead of refunding to the card, then you would have the funds immediately to order this one. No idea if they will do that with such a large purchase, I've certainly had Walmart be okay with it on smaller ones though. Probably depends on the CS person in store.

You mean like everything cranked up on BF6? No. This is around the recommended specs by a little bit, but realistically you won't hardly find a laptop to run BF6 maxed out at any price point, and definitely not at this price point. I'm not sure a 5090 laptop could run BF6 maxed completely out at WQXGA resolution at like 140+ FPS.

This laptop will definitely run it at a nice level, but given that the specs need a desktop 4080 to max out in 4k/1440 and that card along is close to the price of this laptop it won't get there.

I would return the SSD and get one without the heatsink, or google how to remove the heat sink since usually (not always) that is reasonably easy to do. A decade ago when I was younger I probably would have said "meh keep it as is" but honestly so much of the long term durability in laptops is in how well the bottom cover is installed into the system that I wouldn't risk it. Like I used to randomly lose screws when working on laptops, shrug and move on I mean... what's one missing screw out of 14 or whatever? Overtime I noticed those places seemed to eventually become failure points. Woops.

I'm returning it today. I will ask about the gift cards. Hopefully it goes through. If not, I will have to use my travel card for a better purchase. The 14700 is useless for travel& longevity. Thanks for your help.

No problem, the AMD 260 from this one gets more like 6 hours of battery life btw.

Considering this was $949 until just 2-3 days ago, this is not a good deal. Yes, a time machine does not exist, but BF and CM are near, and buying a laptop for more when it was less, merely a few days ago, does not make sense.
Buy with a credit card that will match the price if it lowers ??

Dr. W, you have literally reposted the same thinkpad in the past yourself when it was more expensive than the one you had just posted prior. Even if it's not the all time lowest price, people may need something now and may find it helpful.

Is it possible that the dedicated GPU is still running with it unplugged? My G14 did that and it was atrocious battery life until I made sure the built in graphics were the one running with it unplugged.

I got this at $950, added 16GB more ram and a 2TB SSD in the second nvme slot. Been playing battlefield 6 and starfield on it. The screen is just such eye candy and having an oled for the first time on a computer and a bright one at that with perfect color rendering and 165hz is just crazy awesome. The screen alone makes this feel like a $2000 computer.

Unfortunately no, bought the I7 version for my cousin and tested/set it up myself. Dedicated off. The 14th gen intels are IIRC cut down desktop cards, and they just take too much power even in a low power setting. I think (not sure on this) that OLED is also a less efficient screen format and even brightness turned down uses more energy than IPS does, but it is sooooo pretty lol.

Don't even need to do that necessarily. Walmart's holiday returns this year seem to include laptops which is crazy, so you can return this to any walmart through Jan 31st for a full refund lol.

Nice, though I probably would pay the premium here for the returns through Jan 31st and the crazy cheap accidental damage warranty through allstate for $98/4 years. If you are sure you want this laptop though (and it's such a nice laptop) then that's definitely the way to go.
