This offers much more surge protection (2100J) and 50% more outlets (1 less USB-C) for the same price:

Isn't 900 joule protection kinda on the low end? especially for the price.

If you don't need as many outlets, there's a version with 6 outlets and the same number of USB ports for $20:

Note: this is only rated up to 300 Joules vs. the 900 on the larger strip

Yeah, I wouldn't use this primarily as a surge protector, especially if you have a lot of electronics plugged into it

I have this one, it's great for the multiple plugs and spacing. The dedicated USB ports are handy but they're limited. Just using a single USB port, you'll get the max charging for your device. But as soon as you plug in a 2nd or 3rd USB, the ports are all now sharing only 15W. I have to unplug and plug in a usb for it to work when having all of them used.

This seems to have been my experience as well. I hadn't done enough testing to really identify the issues or workarounds. But it seemed like the USB ports would stop working as well as they should, and I found myself intentionally changing the ports I was plugged into from time to time.

I don't that these kinds of shenanigans are unique to this device. It seems like a common issue with inexpensive power outlet + USB charging combo devices.

At this point, I mentally treat all USB ports on devices like this as 5W (5V/1A). Enough to power random gadgets or slow charge multiple devices at once, but nothing fancy. And if I want greater charging speeds, I plugin one of the dozens of dedicated USB chargers I've gotten from SlickDeals.
