Excellent info regarding the PCIE slot. Link to the open box please?
It would be in the same link as the deal, above the add to cart button it will show how many are in stock at the microcenter near you and the price if they have any open boxes ones. They only had 1 at this location and I was concerned since clearly the unit had been opened as one of the case screws was not flush. They will give you 10% off the open box item so mine was 1620 give or take but you can argue for more at checkout. I ran a bunch of 3DMark tests on it, and it killed the machine. Took it back and they tried to charge me full price for a new unit and I argued giving them a story about having to drive and waste my time and somehow, they gave me the open box price - 15% discount for a brand new unit, so my total was 1377 + tax, they pushed me hard for the warranty so I blessed up the kid and bought the 2nd year of warranty for it for 169. Still got a $97 refund so paid around 1700 with taxes for a brand new one, but don't expect the same results as me since they don't have to honor anything and its up to their discretion. Uploaded the image of the receipt. New Unit works great, no issues at all, even got 19200 on timespy vs old unit was 18600.

From what I have seen, read and "felt" in store these are basically a step down across the board from equivalent Lenovos and ASUS ROGs, but many many tiers above MSI and ACER on build quality. Like the Oman Max doesn't really have any body or lid flex even when picking up by a single corner (which you shouldn't do, but it's a good test and also I do it randomly so whatever). I would say the main place you can "feel" the difference between this and a Legion is the keyboard has some flex under pressure/isn't as nice to type on vs a Legion. My understanding though is that the cooling on these is top notch, The ram can be upgraded and there is an open SSD slot.

Other than that, this looks like a great deal on a great laptop. Personally if I was in the market today for a new gaming laptop I would take a Omen Max over a Legion Pro 5/7/9 because the current gen Legions removed the rear power/HDMI ports which is a deal breaker for me personally.

Edit: Removed incorrect information on how the heatsink is installed. It doesn't block the SECOND SSD port or the ram slots, it blocks the first though, probably not a big deal with an open slot and 1 TB in the primary.
Thank your for sharingThough my experiences with asus & acer are totally your oppositeI have a letdown asus, and been pretty happy with acer, though both are for entry level laptops

I have heard a lot of anecdotal random problems with ASUS QC. Seems less systemic and more random which is honestly a bit more annoying to me. At least i can avoid bad models, I can't know what you forgot to test when building the machine lol.

My issue with Acer is more about build quality on their current generation gaming laptops. The ones I messed with at microcenter were awful. Like 2k dollar gaming laptop with a screen lid that was so weak opening it from the center bowed it like a third of an inch. Never seen a screen lid that structurally bad. Body had lots of flex as well. I mean I would still take it over a MSI any day, but it wasn't great feeling.

Congratulations. That's a slick deal for sure. I can't any open box units nearby though. I'll hang on till a similar price point appears online, not worth the long drive to MC imo. Thanks for the informative post.

just bought the lenovo i7 in last weeks deal for the same exact price. https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ipse-black ......Wondering if i should return it and get this HP instead? The lenovo only has a 5070ti, but has a better build quality and arguably a better processor, ram, screen and other components.

This honestly looks pretty decent, has anyone tried one of these? What's the consensus on these HP laptops? In the market for a new laptop. Funnily enough I guess this could be more performant than my actual PC...
I have the Ultra 7 version for about 6 months now and have very little to complain about. Laptop is well built, quiet and hasn't run hot during gaming but I do use a cooling pad. Coming from a Lenovo, the keyboard isn't as nice and the layout takes some getting used to. Only other complaint is that the OLED does not have the wowness factor of my LG or Samsung but it's not bad, just not as good.

BB doesn't seem to have this model (AMD Ryzen AI 375 processor plus the Rtx 5080) in stock. They only have the Intel paired with the rtx 5080. You think they'll still do a price match?

There's approximately a 20% performance difference between the gpus. You need to decide which one meets your needs.

I personally would take the Lenovo over the HP Omen Max even with the graphics card difference. Screen and keyboard quality are both real important to me over years of use.

Only thing I really like the max for over the Legion Pros (not sure if that is a pro you linked, link didn't work for me), is Omen max has rear power and HDMI which is important to me.

Battery on this when web browsing or youtube? So you would or it automatically switch to the default lower graphics card? With any AMD Ryzen laptop, it would be the AMD Radeon? With an intel processor, it would be intel iris xe graphics right? But some intel processors don't even allow you to switch to the lower graphics card?

I have an xps 15 9520 with intel iris xe graphics card and nividia rtx 3050 and it aways uses the intel iris xe graphics card unless the one program that I use which can use the nvidia 3050, I switch it to that.

I heard battery is really bad on intel laptops if you can't switch the graphics card when you are web browsing or youtube. Is that true or false?
