Looks like a great deal.

I just hope this deal comes to other online stores.

This honestly looks pretty decent, has anyone tried one of these? What's the consensus on these HP laptops? In the market for a new laptop. Funnily enough I guess this could be more performant than my actual PC...

From what I have seen, read and "felt" in store these are basically a step down across the board from equivalent Lenovos and ASUS ROGs, but many many tiers above MSI and ACER on build quality. Like the Oman Max doesn't really have any body or lid flex even when picking up by a single corner (which you shouldn't do, but it's a good test and also I do it randomly so whatever). I would say the main place you can "feel" the difference between this and a Legion is the keyboard has some flex under pressure/isn't as nice to type on vs a Legion. My understanding though is that the cooling on these is top notch, The ram can be upgraded and there is an open SSD slot.

Other than that, this looks like a great deal on a great laptop. Personally if I was in the market today for a new gaming laptop I would take a Omen Max over a Legion Pro 5/7/9 because the current gen Legions removed the rear power/HDMI ports which is a deal breaker for me personally.

Edit: Removed incorrect information on how the heatsink is installed. It doesn't block the SECOND SSD port or the ram slots, it blocks the first though, probably not a big deal with an open slot and 1 TB in the primary.

My understanding though is that the cooling on these is top notch, BUT a downside of these (I think, maybe the non Max Omens? You should double check if this matters to you) is that while the ram can be upgraded and there is an open SSD slot, they both require removing the heatsink to access, and these use a liquid metal setup which means dealing with a repasting, even if you have experience is both harder and more dangerous than prior stuff you probably have done.

Just want to add that RAM can be upgraded without removing heat sink, I did it myself unfortunately I have returned the laptop to HP as it came with broken bottom pannel. Otherwise this laptop build quality is on par with Legion 5 Pro in my opinion.

Nice price for a 5080 but imo at this price point I'd wait for or look at Lenovo Legion. Esp given the lack of OLED screen, if that's impt to you

Had both the hp omen max and currently still have the legion pro 7 gen 10. (Returned the omen) Build quality seems pretty similar on both I actually really like the looks of the omen better and everything seemed pretty great. The legion is thicker and the rear exhaust adds quite a bit of extra width.Cooling solution is better on the legion. Max fans on the omen and it still has a little bit of a hard time taming the CPU (I had the 275hx but I bet this and version would run cooler) having said that it was not a deal breaker and still a great performer. (I even repasted the proprietary LM/paste with thermal grizzly ptm)Only the first SSD slot is blocked by the heat pipes requiring a repaste. The 2nd slot can be added/removed without removing the cooling system.End of the day the legion eeks out a little more performance I was able to consistently get a little more fps (probably due to their 400w brick and extra wattage they allow to the CPU), the keyboard keys on the omen were a little cramped and close together for my liking but I think overall they look better than the legion, and cooling seems a little more effective on the legion.Having said all that. This laptop is SOLID and worth it for $1800. HP really stepped it up with the omen max

Nice reviews, thanks for mentioning those things and correcting me on it, I knew I had heard something super weird with the heatsink needing to be removed, now I like this laptop even more lol.

Thanks for the info. That said ideally I'd like something with pen support, do you know of any laptops that would be decent in that regard? Seems like the ROG Flow Z13 is the only contender in that department.

Hmm that's solidly outside my wheelhouse sorry. Do you want a gaming laptop specifically? I would ask Dr.W though, he knows more about laptops generally than I do, I am mostly focused on gaming laptops this generation. Sorry.

I will say the ROG Flow Z13 is a craaaaazy machine from the reviews if your budget can swing it. Strix Halo is such impressive tech.
