from my understanding anything after the 2019 model is locked down. i would try to use a utility that will remove the bloatware but something like lineage OS is not possible from what i understand.

Not true, I have the same FireHD 10 Gen 13 that I purchased in 2024 and it can be unlocked with Fire ToolBox that people have been using for other Fird HDs.

13 hour battery, is this for real while actually playing video for example? I'm guessing no, maybe that's when the screen is dimmed and you're just reading stuff?
How is the screen quality, and is it bright enough to use in a car on bright days?
I don't need room for a bunch of apps or a bunch of ram, just a media consumption device.

YouTube/Playstore still aren't supported which is crazy in 2025, quality isn't much an issue with fire tablets. If they would have just gone with pure android instead of fireOs (ironically which is also but on Android) landscape of fire tablets would have been a lot different

This tablet is perfectly fine as long as you know what you're getting into. You can put the Google Play store on it along with a few other hacks using the Fire Toolbox. You can't put a custom ROM on it but you can put a different launcher on it and remove all Amazon apps if you want.
