Interesting these are on sale with no reviews. Are they brand new? Why would they be on sale brand new? Weird...

They weren't trying to solve your problem. "Just for reference" made it pretty clear that they were letting everyone else who read your comment know your personal experience is not universal. Find My precision finding works for some (most?) people; myself included.

I have some Tiles that need replacing, would this be a comparable alternative as I think Apple's network is just as good as Tile's network. I just don't want to switch to some knockoff locator network without any real user base.

If it matters I am using Android phones.
I don't think that the Apple find my network works on anything besides iPhones, so getting these for Android would not work.

I was hoping it worked outside of iOS as well, but I know Apple loves keeping things proprietary at the same time.
Thanks for the reply and I'll do some more research.

These are much better than Tile because the Tile network is mostly limited to other Tile users, but the Apple network is everyone with an iphone. You'd need an iphone or ipad to activate these and also to locate them. I'm basically all android, but use an older ipad for my airtags. That can be a problem because I can't locate them unless I have that ipad with me, but the better network is worth it to me. It probably depends on what you're putting them on.

Then don't bother me with the anecdote then. If it doesn't solve the issue then why should I care that it works for them or anyone else. They're just commenting to comment with nothing to add to the conversation.
The irony of this post is amazing.

And just to keep this more on topic, I'm going to try these out. I've been wanting more air tags, but didn't feel like spending ~$70/4

not having navigation is actually a feature if you want to track your stolen car/bike. Cheap tracker just need to remove the speaker, not sure how hard with this.

iOS 14.3+ supports Apple "Find My" service and tags using such service. iOS 14.5+ supports AirTags. Even the iPhone 6S (2015), iPad Air 2 (2014) and iPad mini 4 (2015) should support these tags. Obviously, Apple may have added more features to Find My in newer versions of iOS.

I know plenty of people with primary Android phones who owns secondary iPhones (usually used or cheap models) or iPad on WiFi or a cheap data plan just to track their AirTags and cloneTags. Apple's Find My service is immensely valuable and far superior to Google/Samsung's counterparts let alone Tile's (some of those people are long term ex-Tile owners).
