Screw Microsoft. Windows 11 forces you to keep more and more of your personal data on their servers so they can peruse it, invade your privacy even more than they already do, and monetize you. It's time to say goodbye to Microsoft for good and move off to a Linux desktop.

Need a second opinion from a Microsoft developer? https://youtu.be/C44iCr6czAo?si=M6lO0WWv3A5CYb8r

In the early 2000s? Perhaps.

You couldn't pay me to use Norton back then.

A quick search for "top antivirus software" yielded this result...

Quote :
The best antivirus software depends on individual needs, with Norton 360 often cited as the top all-around choice for its comprehensive features and strong protection, while Bitdefender is frequently recommended for its robust scanning capabilities and user-friendly interface. TotalAV is a suitable option for those prioritizing ease of use and good malware protection, especially beginners. For users needing to protect numerous devices, McAfee is a strong contender, often including unlimited device coverage in its plans.
Top contenders
Norton 360: A leading choice for its all-around protection, which includes antivirus, malware, and ransomware defense, a smart firewall, and extra features like a VPN, cloud backup, parental controls, and dark web monitoring. It is also user-friendly and has a strong customer support reputation.
Is it a bit on the spammy side by trying to pitch unnecessary LifeLock protection and/or additional subscriptions? Yep. But even that has gotten better as of late with the option to "Never see this again" type responses.

PC World even ranked it as the best AV of 2025 [pcworld.com]. They're not the end all be all, but...

Tom's Guide has them as tops for "Best Features" [tomsguide.com]. Norton tops Forbes' list [forbes.com] with a 9.9 score. They were also tops / Best Overall A/V at AllAboutCookies [allaboutcookies.org] (?). They were the winner of "Best Cross Platform with Total Security" at CNET [cnet.com], best for small business at Security.org [security.org] and tops at SafetyDetectives [safetydetectives.com] and CyberNews [cybernews.com]. Not cherry-picking -- those are just the top organic review results I came across outside of Quora, as it's not a review site.

I also asked Perplexity for its take on Norton being bloat-y. Its answer [perplexity.ai] aligns with my thinking -- for what you get, it's not resource intensive (in storage/RAM/processing).

Isn't this like buying a stolen iPhone that Apple could lock remotely at any moment? How is that a good deal?

You need to read up on what Grey market means:

Grey market goods are authentic products bearing valid trademarks that are sold and imported into a country through unofficial distribution channels. These products are not counterfeit but are imported to bypass official channels, often to take advantage of price differences or excess inventory in other markets

Not with windows. They don't care about you paying for the OS. They just want to steal your data and sell it. If MS actually cared about gray market, or even piraters in a large scale then the last windows I bought wouldn't have been Vista. Only reason MS cares now with win11 is because the methods being used are blocking their data mining operations.

I understand what grey market means but software keys aren't like cameras or sneakers. With Microsoft licenses, the "right to use" is controlled by the license terms, not just whether the key is "real." Volume/educational/oem keys are non-transferable and not for resale. When you buy one cheap from an unofficial seller, you're likely violating the EULA, have no proof of legitimate entitlement, and Microsoft can revoke it anytime (which they done numerous times before). No support, no invoice, and you could lose access later. so it's not a legit "deal," just a short-term gamble.
