Crazy how cheap generators have become. Precovid, I paid $500 or maybe $600 for a 2200 watt champion inverter generator. This looks like a clone of that clone, and the 5kw version is the same price I paid.

It has served me very well. Before getting the generator, we had some power outages. Since getting it, I have had literally zero. It scares them off. Now I get to rotate 10 gallons of gas every 12 months and run it for 30 minutes every 3-6 months for nothing. Kind of exciting.

For purely home backup, the 5kw inverter generator is a much better value proposition than a battery system. The only caveat is you have to have the fuel on hand.
