FYI, these style wrenches are really not good for removing most oil filters. They offer very little gripping force and require a decent amount of space around the oil filter to be able to use them. If you are new to working on vehicles, I'd recommend a cam-action style endcap-grabbing oil filter removal tool that works with a 3/8" socket drive.

Very YMMY on whether or not stores will actually sell items marked down to cents like this. In the past I've had orders cancelled by the store and clerks refuse to check me out because apparently these items are supposed to be returned to the vendor or thrown away.

Agree on all counts. Even at a nickel this isn't worth it, especially driving there to get it unless you need something else there. I hand tighten and then go back and hand tighten again and have never had a problem. I can almost always take the filter back off with my hands and on the rare occasion I can't I use the cap tool or I've used a channel lock to break it free and then spin it off.

If these aren't getting your filters off, you might be overtightening your filter. Have used this style for years with no issue. You just need the right size for the filter being used. My Cummins Ram has an oil filter that's a pain to hand tighten and loosen and this type of tool has done the trick for several years.

I like to scream a barbaric yalp and punch a screwdriver through the can.

Not recommended for cartridge style filters.

You can't always count on being the last person who did an oil change on the vehicle you're working on (newly acquired vehicle, family or friends vehicles, etc). I'm pretty sure that Brian Shaw, Eddie Hall, and Hafþór Björnsson all work part time jobs on the side at Automotive dealerships with their sole jobs being to install new oil filters on vehicles as tight as humanly possible

You need a tool for the job.... not a job for the tool.

Was it there when you got to the store? I just took my confirmation for a different item to the store, only to be told it was out of stock.
