Keep your receipt! These seem pretty notorious for failing early.

I got one as part of the 2024 post black Friday deal in a bundle and it stopped charging beyond halfway after less than a year with minimal use. You have call Kobalt to get a return authorization, but in my case it came as part of a kit so return/refund of the entire kit is the only recourse. But....if you don't still have all the parts of your kit then you are out of luck. Yes, the unstated part of the Kobalt "No Hassles" warranty is that is you bought something in a kit and you don't have all the elements of that kit anymore, then you do not have a warranty on anything in the kit.

Kobalt is wholly owned by Lowes, so they are entirely to blame even though I got the "It's Kobalt's policy not us" from the store manager. So absurd...never again.

My experience: I have about 25 of these, various amp hours, some almost 7-8 years old still going. Had 1 fail, would not charge. Jump started it with a wire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ienO4hRNDfA

From what I learned the biggest problems are the 4ah version, but of course ymmv. Short of a major operation replacing cells the ones that only partially charge like mine are screwed.

I had a different experience, but I didn't have to return the whole set. It took a while, but eventually, the manager processed a store credit, and I ended up getting a replacement battery and new receipt by the time it was over.

FWIW If these have quality cells, the cells can be harvested and re-purposed at $3.25 per cell.

This is also my experience. I have three 2ah batteries, six 4ah batteries, and two 5ah batteries. I've never had a single one fail. Varying ages, but several well over 6 years old. They all hold a charge perfectly and have given me zero issues. The only one that has given me an "issue" and I hesitate to call it that, is the 4ah Ultimate Output battery I have, which when I use it in my attachment capable weed eater has overheated once in maybe 30 uses. It was also just blazing hot that day and I was edging a quarter acre lot so it was running constantly. My personal experience is that the batteries (extended run blue batteries for sure), are just fine.

I'd go to a different store.

Had this exact same experience, was rediculous. Had to go back 3 times to get a drill replaced that stopped working from a kit.

If it's at the discretion of the manager then I try my luck at a different store.

The "no hassle warranty" is for hand tools not for power tools and batteries. I've had a couple things go out in xtr sets I've had and had only the tool replaced not the whole set. You get different stories with every customer service visit. Recently had a bad drill on xtr drill/driver set, when they asked for the whole set I gladly obliged and exchanged my 4 year old set for a new set with a new 5/3 year warranty.

I stand corrected…they imply by omission that there WILL be hassles for power tools and batteries. Stores are few and far between where I'm at so it's not worth it to drive 20mi and spend another half hour pleading with a different manager with some hope of getting satisfaction. Just sad that the manager admits to me it's a ridiculous policy that you wouldn't expect when purchasing but feels powerless to do anything about it. I'll blame the corporate office that probably dings the managers for making exceptions to their braindead policies.
