Was just in another country and bought 10g tube of aciclovir cream otc for $1.50 . Its ridiculous what you pay here. Denavir which is penciclovir cream which is RX and slightly better is like $800 for a 5g tube without insurance. I would say aciclovir is probably similar to Abreva and Denavir is slightly better though both Aciclovir and Abreva don't do a hell of a lot. I want the Denavir cream for my next cold sore and good think my insurance covers it. But it is a rip off. You can buy the generic in other countries for like $30 or less but unfortunately was not available in the country I was visiting

Nothing really works unless you catch it super early. Oral RX, Famvir better than Valtrex. Take 1500mg once when you feel you are getting one. New drug Pritelivir in trial should be promising but by the time its available and getting doctor to write for RX might be difficult if only on the mouth

This is true. If you read the studies it may shorten duration from about 1/2 a day to 1.5 days tops. These things last like 10 days usually so it lasts 9 instead. Even aciclovir cream does not do much. Best is oral medication but still need to take it at the very start. And again, I'd like to try Denavir cream but the shit is so damn expensive, I even feel bad having my insurance pay for it

How often and how much Lysine do you take? I tried it daily as a preventative but it didn't seem to help.
