Soooo I have 2 p1s and they both have thousands of hours of prints time and here is what I think of the upgrades:

5-inch touchscreen - I honestly could care less, the amount I use the screen is near 0, everything is controlled via wifi and the slicer.

Improved Lighting - I did end up adding better lighting to both mine but honestly this was strictly because I wanted to be able to spin around in my chair and see my prints from across the room, at no point was this a "need".

Improved Camera - again neat but I never used the camera other than to occasionally check in on my print when I was away from the house and the 2fps I was getting with the p1s was plenty to do that with.

Cooling - again awesome but I never had any problems with cooling and I printed PLA all the time with the lid on, in fact I never take the lid off and I have had 0 problems.

Guide Rods - I like the steel guide rods but the 2 seconds it took to clean the carbon rods every 100 or so hours wasnt a big deal.

Filament Handling - I printed a side mounted holder for my p1s, it is way better, 10/10 for understanding the rear spool was a terrible idea.

AI Failure detection system - I mean I'm sure its cool and all but the amount of "failures" i have had with my p1s is near 0 and most of the time it was my fault because I forgot to change what plate I was using in the settings or some other goofy thing.

New extruder - Folks this is where the money shot is, they took all the bells and whistles of the A1 series and slapped it on the refresh, the auto flow calibration on my A1 mini is chefs freaking kiss for getting insanely nice prints the clog/grinding detection is nice but honest to god I 've never had either on any of my bambu machines.

All in all you can upgrade your p1s to do damn near everything the p2s does for near nothing but I have to say unless you can get a sexy deal (like this slick deal) on a current p1s I would grab a p2s soley for the auto flow calibration, I love it on my A1 mini.
Ask me literally anything if you have any questions about the p1s or A1 mini for that matter I have literally thousands of hours on my machines.

No one answered you, but this is a super important question. Disclaimer: I'm not a scientist and I haven't done any measurements, comparisons, or anything of the sort. I'm just a guy who's been printing for a couple of years. Don't blame me if you grow a 3rd arm.

You will have VOCs (volatile organic compounds, or "bad fumes") with every printer just from the nature of heated, broken down materials to print with. In general PLA and PETG are safe enough for you to be in the same room as the printer. The fumes I smell are little to none from my P1S, although mine is enclosed and I have HEPA filters on the vent fan in the back. I also have the Bento Box mod if I'm printing other materials besides PLA, PETG, or TPU.

The "S" in ABS and ASA is styrene. If you have ever thrown a styrofoam cup into a camp fire, you know how terrible those fumes are. You should definitely not print ABS or ASA in an occupied room without some serious air treatment. People who print stuff like this have a whole another vented enclosure around the printer to contain the VOCs. It's going to be much safer to do this in a shed or a vented garage. Same with resin. You should do this in a shed or vented garage, as well as using nitrile gloves and masks to handle it after the print.

Should you protect yourself even with PLA and PETG? Sure, but microplastics have permeated every aspects of our lives, and you have to do the calculus to determine what is an acceptable risk to you. I've accepted to have my PLA and PETG prints going in the same room as me. The carbon filled nylon prints I've done used the Bento Box mod and I didn't smell any fumes. I will not print ABS or ASA unless my printer is in a garage or shed.

Be careful as the P1S combo comes with the 1st gen AMS and not the newer AMS 2 Pro.

With the big disadvantages of time and filament waste because of purging in AMS style single nozzle printers, industry is moving towards multi toolhead solutions.<br />
Snapmaker U1- Still in Kickstarter, yet to deliver, biggest 3d printing KS with 20 million in pledge amount.<br />
Indx by Bondtech will be coming with Prusa CoreOne.<br />
Bambu did showcase of their own version of this with H2C which they claim they been working from years. But because they just want to sell AMS it's still AMS dependent, you will get some filament saving with this but not time saving, as you still need to cut, retract and push new filament.<br />
<br />
Also: h2c is expected to be 2k+

Thanks for this information. I learned that there is an incredible amount of waste produced when doing multi-color prints. There are techniques to minimize but still you are looking at more wasted filament than what actually goes into your model. The new machines you mentioned fix that with multi-nozzle setups. That is definitely a better way forward. The filliment is expensive so if you are printing a lot $100s - $1000s would be saved in material.

That is what I am facing with my Ender V3KE. I feel like I spend more time fixing it and the parts just aren't that available for upgrading. I had been planning on later getting the new P2S. Knowing you came from a similar situation, do you have any strong opinions on the P2S versus P1S that I should consider?
The p1s is a hassle (more than ender to change the nozzle) and you have to use thermal paste. They upgraded the hotend as the same as the H2 and A1 which takes like 20 seconds. For me id consider upgrading to the H2S, but for you, the P2S is 550 and the P1S with ams combo is the same price. the screen on the p1 is barely usable and i never used it. Both will be amazing upgrade from an ender, but id say the P1s has hit its limit and the P2 will be good for anything bambulab releases in the future. Id say P2S unless you really want the AMS for free with the P1S. Like i said, i've never done any servicing on mine, and its a big change from the ender (i probably put 300 hours into just tinkering with it). They're both good deals tbh, and you wont be dissapointed with either.

Is the A1 combo $150 better than the Anycubic Kobra 3 v2 combo deal that was also on sd?
Kobra 3v2 prints better, I have both.

Yeah, but aren't you basically saying that 'why would anyone buy these printers when there are $230 options and the market is moving toward technology (that presently costs $1,000+)? Seems apples to oranges.
I'm a beginner and have owned the P1S w/ AMS1 since June and it has been printing almost non-stop since the day I got it because it's so easy to use, so fun and capable of making results.
Yeah, AMS has ups and downsides, but I feel like this is saying don't buy this minivan for your family of 5 grocery getter because it can't do a 10 second 1/4 mile.
That's a good call out. Nothing on the consumer side of things compares to Bambu's ability to just work. Cheaper options cost more in the end due to time and energy to keep it working.

Get the P2S. Better closed loop dynamics management. More reliable. More turnkey. Once you have it you will kick yourself for why you held onto the Creality for so long.

My use case is functional items for my hobbies, for example parts or things that are useful in improving my kayak, firearms, crossbow, aquarium, fishing, hunting, cars, stuff around the house, etc.

What features or abilities should I be looking for in a 3D printer for my use case?

Is there a particular kind of filament that I would want to use?

Which Bambu Labs printer would be best for me?

I don't have a particular budget but I don't want to pay for features I don't care about

A ton. Lots of video reviews available if you're curious. At this price though, I'm seriously considering the P1.
It's a lot better however compared to the black Friday price for the p1s combo I might get this as my third

P1S vs QiDi q2 if want to print engineering filament? Do the reliability or print quality differ a lot?
