Decent? No, it would be fantastic. A 15 year old boys dream system.

This isn't a PC that would ever need much upgrading, pretty much ideal as it is.

Generally this would be paired with around a 27" 1440p 120hz or better monitor if he wants to sit at a desk, but not everyone wants to sit at a desk while gaming, some of us like to use a big 4k tv on the wall so we can relax and recline on the couch or recliner or in bed.

You'll be able to tell which display would work best by how he's using his laptop, at a desk or on the couch or reclining in bed.

I'd pair that with my 77" Sony oled and a decent wireless mouse and keyboard.

Seems like a solid price for a prebuilt with these components. 5070 is a great card for 2k or less btw.

My son is wanting a desktop gaming PC for his birthday (he is turning 15). Currently has a laptop that's 3 years old. Mainly plays steam games and chats with his friends, but would like something a bit more robust and he wants to be able to learn how to swap out components/build his own computer over time. Would this be a decent deal for him in your opinion? Any specific monitor that would/would not be ideal to go with this?

I think you could build this for about the same price so this is definitely a fair price for a pre-built. It also comes with 3 months of Game pass if you care about that. The RAM being only 5200MHz seems like the biggest downside.

For a monitor for this I would go 1440p and at least 180Hz, ideally 240Hz especially if he plays competitive games.

I am doing the exact same thing but for my 13 year old. I was originally looking for a 5060 for around $1000. It would be more than enough 1080p gaming computer for him.

This being a 5070 is about 40% faster and 12gb VRAM makes it much more future proof vs 8gb. This one has me personally thinking really hard but about $300 more than I wanted to spend.

IMO this is almost over kill for a first computer, but it will work well for many years to come. Not to mention the 850w power supply will support very powerful GPU upgrades in the future. Also, for short money you can add an extra year or two warranty. I think this is about the cheapest you will find a 5070 prebuilt right now from a good brand.

As for a monitor get something 1440p with a good refresh rate. The 5070 was made for 1440p gaming.

"almost overkill" for a first system. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. There is Dells on here for $150 that someone on Craigslist is selling for $75. I think most people I knows first computer was something a rich person/the school we went to threw beside a dumpster. It's almost the same price. At this price this system better perform as well as an American sports car like a mustang or camero vs other cars on the road. With a as seen on tv name like lenevo/dell on it I can't promise it will. Usually they are more like BMW. Bet hey have at it. BMW owners are the only ones who complain about BMWs an it takes a few years of owning them to grow tired of them.

Are you guys both like Bill gates level psycho rich? You are talking about fancy high end stuff. Replacing 3 year old computers. 240hz monitors. For kids who's frontal cortexs haven't even developed enough to drive a $500 car yet. You know what I consider more important than 120hz or 240hz? 80 inch 8k oled samsung screens (which probably have 240hz but your gfx card won't be playing 1440-8k in 240hz. Far better than some gimmicky refresh rate increase. Only $9000 for one of them bad boys. I couldn't even play 4k games at 120hz a few years back an I had the most expensive gfx card there was. (which was actually 2 cards in one and you can't use 2-4 gfx cards at once anymore).

How easy would it be to add another 1TB hard drive into this setup? Would be ideal if it was 2TB.

Best I can tell from web searching, it has a second m.2 slot behind the GPU.
Would be fairly easy to add a second SSD or swap out the primary SSD for a 2TB model. May need to remove the GPU for access.
