any other specs you were weighing when making this decision? I'm so on the fence, don't know what to choose
The regular chip one is fine for almost every use case. If saving a few seconds compiling code or minutes transcoding video is important, go pro chip. Otherwise, regular is fine.
RAM will future proof the purchase, and optimize for that. 512 GB SSD probably convenient, as Apple OS takes up about 100 GB. I have a 256 GB for years and still plenty of space, but YMMV.

1. The higher memory bandiwidth will make the experience *feel* a bit snappier(miliseconds faster), and will help quite dramatically when you play around with local LLMs.
2. The higher core count means the system can do the same things at once without raising the power level, or more things at extreme level
3. The M4Pro with this spec has a 20-core GPU. Not sure if that's useful to you but it's definitely faster than M5's 10-core
up to you what you value the most, or if you just want a brand new one go get the M5
EDIT: M5 has the new neuron processor bolted to it, but considering the current status of "Apple Intelligence" I wouldn't really think too hard about it

Open box excellent still available, albeit it almost $2k.
Wild. Paid $1525 for open box excellent 2 weeks ago (M4 Pro 24gb/1tb ssd), though it was silver.
Thought it was worth it over the M3 Pro for TB5 vs TB4
