No, it's not. Currently, the best bang for your buck actually lies in the M3 lineup. The M3 MacBook Pro, with 18GB RAM and priced at $1,299-$1,350, would be a better option than opting for the M4 or M5 with 16GB RAM, which would be available at the same price or higher. You wouldn't get a significant or noticeable performance boost with the M4 or M5, but you would be losing RAM, all for more money. Refurb M3 Pro goes on sale for $1100-$1200, and that would be the best deal in that price bracket; Raise the budget and you can get a 36GB RAM M3 Pro, whereas for the same price you would only get the 24GB M4 Pro.

Best Buy policy is: they will price match as long as micro center is in the same state

Years ago, I tried pricematching something with Microcenter. I think the difference was $50, not a lot. They gave every excuse in the book:

"Must be in stock" (Microcenter's site says in stock)
"Must be physical ad" (I point to their policy that says physical ad or website)
"Must be the same color, size, quantity" (yes to all).
When I persisted, the store manager came out and said "It must be a local competitor. "Local" means "across the street." He was shocked when I left my whole shopping basket and walked out of the store.

Just bought one at full price from BestBuy, but I don't think I can bring myself to try to get them to PM a Microcenter that is nowhere close to me.
Great price if your part of the 5% of the country that lives near the handful of MC stores.

M5 is so much better than M4. Trust me.

Interesting. I would have expected the policy to require a Micro Center in the same metro area. (Texas is a big state)

I successfully price matched it with MC twice. If they reject to price match, you can always try again. Eventually some rep will agree.

Microcenter consistently offers 10% off Apple. I just ordered the M5 with 16GB / 512GB through Best Buy and price matched Microcenter $1439. That model will likely hit $1399 at some point on sale, but that might be a little bit away and I needed to get something in hand.

That was the excuse BB used on me the last time I tried to PM with Microcenter, despite NOWHERE in the PM terms does it say it has to be "local". (at least back then it wasn't in the terms...it might be different now). The rep at the time refused because the MC wasn't "local".

Same thing happened to me trying to price match to Circuit City which was about a mile away.

I bought the 14" Macbook Pro M4 Pro, 24GB, 1TB (14/20 core) a couple of weeks ago for $1919 (open box/excellent (perfect) from Best Buy). Will I regret that purchase, or is that still a good deal? I'm still within my return window, as a Plus member.

No it's not. Better value with M4 Pro chip. These prices should get reduced within the next 2-3 weeks.
