The batteries leaked in mine and now it shows an error. Pretty annoying.

Are these better than Thermopop?
short answer is yes.

this one is faster and slightly more accurate. these really are about a second to read, and my thermapop is usu. closer to 3-4 in real world use. i got it on sale for $28 though and for that it's slamming.

still tempted for this but as a home chef, there's no way that 2-3 seconds matters to me.

this is still a killer deal though on a fantastic product.

Thanks for the response!

I use my thermopop daily and it definitely is not that slow. I'd say 1-2 sec at most. Sometimes it really feels instantaneous.

What are you all doing with the extra 3 seconds you save for $52?!
Typically it is avoiding burning your hands. You can check multiple temps quickly while leaving a dish on the oven rack or on the grill. The other thing is that it is quick AND accurate. Also nice to have something NOT made in China for a change.

Yes. It's not just the speed (though it's faster). It's not just the accuracy (though it's more accurate). It's the whole user experience. I believe you have to turn on the Thermopop. If you set the Thermapen down while you're using it, it shuts off via auto-timer but turns back on automativally when you pick it up. When I'm cooking, this feature comes into play A LOT.

I had a hairline crack in mine that did not affect functionality at all. I took a picture, sent to support email and they sent me a new one in mail with no hassle. Thermapen One model has 5 year warranty. I didn't realize that until support told me lol. When mine fails, I'll gladly pay full price for a new one. If you are on the fence, just buy it. Especially at this sale price.

Great find! Thought I lost my Thermapen for about 2 weeks and during that time I could not bring myself to purchase another at full price knowing they go on sale from time to time. I eventually found it but vowed to purchase another when they went on sale again. Now I can have one outside for the grill/smoker/flat top griddle and keep another in the kitchen.

I like to use Energizer lithium for more expensive, delicate electronics

No, body temp is calculated differently. You won't get accurate readings using these.
