Cute phone but not worth $550. Maybe like $350.

SD Gen 3 CPU, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, updates through 2031, and foldable form factor. It's not at bad deal at all. Outperforms the Pixels that cost hundreds more...

Haven't followed the Android space for some time, does anyone know if the bootloader can be unlocked and if it can, any good custom roms? (I dislike Samsung One UI and the bloat)

But the Pixel will be going for years after this inevitably fails at the fold.
You've never owned a Pixel then. You're lucky to get through the warranty and every previous Pixel I've owned (3) died between year 1-2 just out of warranty. I finally bought insurance for the 9 Pro XL and of course it's been fine but I fully expect something to die in 2026. Pixel phones are junk.

how is the battery vs flip 5?
better, but pretty awful if you compare to slate phone.

my normal day with Flip 6 get to about 30% battery or less when i come back to home (granted i have been using this phone for over 1 year, so battery may be degraded)
i recently updated to a S25 Ultra. i got 90% battery left when i come back to home with the same usage.

as a matter fact, my Flip 6 is sitting at home idle would drain more battery than my S25 ultra that i carry with me.

keep in mind that i have been using flip since flip 3. the battery life does increase year after year, but if you came from a slate phone, it is mostly going to be major downgrade.

Screen protector peel off and can strain the screen and damage. The fold becomes more visible over a period of time. Very delicate to use.

The hinge will fail eventually. Also likely to get damaged from drops. This design simply doesn't work.

$350 range is low budget category. I think this is somewhat mid level but yeah definitely not worth it for phone that is almost 2 years old.

I have flip5 and it failed after 2 years. It switches off when I fold, so now I use it open all the time. I just taped the back so I don't fold it accidentally.
Mine and my wife's Flip 5 are still working perfectly, so our anecdotal experience trumps your anecdotal experience Big Grin

Not sure how flip 5 is upgraded, but my flip 3 failed after about a year, first the screen protection damaged at the hinge and eventually fell off, then the screen stopped working when openning the phone. Brought it to Vietnam for a temporary fix then traded in for a s24+. I really like the compact but not sure if I want a phone that only last a year.

I used flip 3 for 2 years and flip 5 for an year. As time pass by the firmness to hold the bend only loosened at hinge. I bend my phone only to take photos. Other than that these are great phones.

Pretty sure unlocking BL was killed in UI8.

how is the battery vs flip 5?
After the recent UI update, I found that the battery life improved. Now my one year old phone (usually charged to 80%) can last 2 days in light use.

Depending on your priority. If photo image quality is what you care about, then even Pixel 6A beats Z Flip 6.
