I have this model - I use it for reading whitepapers and marking up written text, while also as a backup book reader. I don't use it as quite as much as I planned, but it is pretty good overall. It's much more responsive than the latest kindle paperwhite. I did get it new for around $250 almost two years ago on some amazon sale (and by trading in a old firestick for 20% off), so I'm not sure $199 is an amazing deal for a refurb when there is a new model out. It's probably a good deal though.

Oh wow. You sold me on the new one. I've been wanting a kindle I can take notes on and can read comics on too. Too bad Amazon crapped the bed with Comixology. Hopefully it'll be easy to import scans.
Get a Boox that runs android.

$200 for (I assume) a very lightly used 2024 scribe is a great deal. I would definitely bite if they didnt showcase the lighter/faster/thinner/better new one....
isn't this 2022 version? (1st gen)

returning mine. the text isn't great contrast for reading book, it feel like it's a screen.. and the color is sad.. just the state of these technology i guess. once i jailbroke the kindles i got. kobo seems pointless. love the overdrive integration though

For those that wants the new one, specially the color one. The starting price on that is $650 just fyi.

If you simply want a bigger Kindle to read or write on. This still works great.

Can I use it as every day note taking device at a retail business instead of notepad and a pen?

Does it have any kind of organization for notes?

Which Kobo did you have? We switched from an Oasis to Kobo Libra Colour and it's been incredible. Overdrive and pocket integrations alone are nice. One downside is it's not as premium feeling as the Oasis, hoping they step up their game in the future with a high end model. For a big one I think I'm waiting on a good deal on the Remarkable Paper Pro.

It seems like it's being marketed more for college or post grad. Reviews I've seen stress its use for post grad.

I think it will be too cumbersome for retail business as it will be hard to browse quickly for quick little notes. Just my opinion based on reviews and having worked customer service in a previously life.

Having said that, I plan on buying it as a kindle replacement plus note taking for a sales job. I use OneNote extensively though, so this note taking is really just for me to go back and write up better notes in OneNote.

All Kindles that have ads are jail breakable currently. Essentially only the scribe and the Signature Editions are the hold outs. But I believe some older Signature Editions can be jail broken still depending on their current software version. The YouTuber Damnit Jeff put out a video on this last week.
