The M4 MacBook Air stands out as a thin, premium laptop with strong battery life, a good screen, a nicer webcam, and support for two external displays plus the built in display without a DisplayLink dock. The M series is also described as staying smooth for years, with one M1 Air still running well after four years and holding 7 plus hours of battery life. The main knock is Apple's storage pricing, since the jump from 256GB to 512GB is seen as steep at $200. That makes the 512GB model feel more like a convenience upgrade than a clear value play.

Common Questions (4)

  • The M4 Air is pricier, but it offers Apple's build quality, strong battery life, and a polished laptop experience. Snapdragon and Lunar Lake machines can be competitive on price and battery, but Windows setup, bloat, and speakers can be drawbacks depending on the model.

  • The 512GB jump is a $200 premium over the 256GB model, and Apple's storage pricing is widely viewed as steep. If you need the space, it avoids relying on external storage; if not, the upgrade is poor value compared with buying storage separately.

  • For web browsing and media, the difference is small, but the M4 adds a nicer webcam and slightly better real-world battery life. If you need those extras or two external displays, the M4 has clear advantages; otherwise the M3 can feel very similar.

  • Yes. The M4 MacBook Air can drive two external displays plus its built-in screen without a DisplayLink dock, which is useful if you want a multi-monitor setup without extra adapters.

Would love to see the 15.3 at this price. 13.6 is too small for my bad eyes

Powerpc processors were originally an AIM product. And they are rarely used in actual PCs. They are more of an embedded application chip. The Apple m1 is NOT a Powerpc chip.

No average consumer should be paying $1,000 for a laptop let alone a 13" laptop with 512GB storage. That is ridiculous.

With how fast technology is marching on people are better served getting the cheapest PC that gets the job done. Most $500 slickdeal laptops will surf the web and handle basic office tasks just fine.

I keep wanting to upgrade my i7 laptop but my current laptop works just fine and better tech is just around the corner.
The $400 laptops hits common use. M1 8/256, 256v 16/512, 155h
Even a $100 Intel 6th gen does basic with win10

It's crazy that Apple laptops are the best values now. I remember in college buying some big clunky MacBook with a core 2 duo for a lot more than this
What? I can get an equivalent pc for a few hundred bucks. No way they are the best deal. They are fine for apple enthusiasts but just about anything else is a better deal. It is beyond insulting that they think a 256 gb ssd upgrade should cost $200 when you can buy a 1 tb ssd below $80.

It's at Costco. You need to look up individual locations to see if they have it. If you DM me your zip I can help you out.

I feel like Apple is overcharging people with their storage options and pricing. The 256gb version is sometimes $799, but for $200 more 512gb version is supposed to be a deal? Pretty disappointing to me.
That's Apple's MO, but build quality is next level. That's one thing they have done better than anyone else on the market today. But it's well known they charge a premium for both memory and storage.

I'm waiting a 24GB ram and doesn't care of storage size
Same. In fact, I'd like a 24GB RAM version of the M3.

M4 allows for 2 external displays plus internal display without the use of something like a Displaylink dock for CPU emulated displays. If that's not useful to you, then you are correct there isn't a huge difference other than the webcam upgrade. The M series are absolute powerhouses and I legitimately cannot find an excuse to upgrade from my M1/16gb Macbook Air from 2020. Smooth as the day I bought it and I still get 7hr+ of battery life. Can't imagine how many years one of these M4 will last.
M3 allows for 2 external displays as well, AFAIK. M2 and older is where it's only 1 external.

I just used a Lenovo Slim 7i for a few days and Windows just doesn't seem great on laptops. I spent like a couple of days just trying to get rid of the bloat and messing with settings just so I could try and get the same battery life all the reviewers said it should have. The speakers were also not great.
Should of gotten an AMD with tons of Ram.

Lunar lake supposed to be now efficient and I don't really have a need for that much ram since I'm not doing anything heavy with it. Just wanted something with great battery life, good screen, and good speakers.
