RTINGS Review - https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/r...g/hw-q990d
8.6/10 for Mixed Usage - "The Samsung Q990D is excellent for mixed usage. This bar can do it all. It has a very balanced and neutral sound, so it sounds versatile enough for movies, TV shows, and music. It delivers thumpy and punchy bass, too, thanks to its subwoofer, and you can even customize its sound thanks to its robust sound enhancement features. This bar supports a lot of different audio formats and can play Dolby Atmos content to give you a really immersive and dimensional audio experience."
Community Reviews
The HW Q990D is being treated as a top tier all around soundbar package, with balanced sound, punchy bass from the subwoofer, and strong Dolby Atmos support that makes movies and regular TV sound immersive. It is also praised for easy wireless setup, since only power needs to be wired, and the rear speakers can be placed near the main unit if needed. Reported drawbacks include occasional echo with Samsung TV Q Symphony, Bluetooth unpairing, and some setup resets to restore bass or audio. A few comments also flag Samsung firmware and support concerns, so it stands out most for home theater impact and flexibility.
Common Questions (5)
Yes, it can run without the rear speakers, and the subwoofer is wireless for audio but still needs AC power. The rear speakers also need outlet power, so the setup is wireless for signal but not completely cable-free.
The discount can require the right account type and sometimes a fresh Samsung account; some shoppers got it by creating an EDU account through a basic college application or by using EPP access. If the price still shows full retail, the promo may not be applied to that account or offer combination.
Some setups report echo with Samsung TV Q-Symphony, Bluetooth unpairing, or needing a reset to restore bass or get the bar working again. There are also reports of firmware-related failures on older Q990C units, so keeping firmware and setup stable matters.
It is described as having balanced, neutral sound with punchy subwoofer bass and support for many formats, including Dolby Atmos. It is also reported to make movies more cinematic and to sound strong for mixed use and regular TV shows with adaptive sound.
Yes. The setup includes an option to place the back speakers near the main speaker if you do not have room for a full rear layout.
