also have a Fuego and if anyone is looking for one and doesn't mind waiting a little longer for shipping, Daiwa makes a Fuego that is specifically made for the Asian markets that is about half the price for the same exact reel. they're on Aliexpress

Do you have a link? I've seen them on Aliexpress, but they're very close to US retail pricing with the shipping fees.

this is the one i purchased: https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32...pt=glo2usa
but it does look like there are now shipping fees of about ~$15, which definitely makes it not as good of a deal, but still comes to about $30 cheaper than the normal price.

Chinese market Fuego from Aliexpress went to as low as $40-$50 range before the tariff war (from abcspyder store). But after that not only the price has increased but also free shipping is no longer offered. (I am talking about the particular store that sells daiwa stuffs). So at this time there is no point of buying from Ali. Digitaka and asian fishing portal sells JDM (japan domestic market) reels at a comparable price. Some even reported receiving reels on the next day of ordering which was shipped out of Japan from Digitaka.

Honestly the way I did by checking the seller page, ratings and product reviews. Also there are some stores that generally sells legit stuffs and you can see "choice"/ commitment marks. You can take references from reddit as well. Obviously none of these can 100% verify but also see if free return is offered so that you can return without hassle if anything goes wrong. As a final resort you can initiate charge back with your credit card given you have all the evidences on your side if you indeed receive a counterfeit reel. I haven't bought anything since the tariff game. So can't tell anything about recent experiences.

the Daiwa box it comes in has a QR code that links to their website to verify the authenticity

definitely a much better deal without the extra fees but it's still about $30 cheaper than the domestic market Fuegos that sell for $109 new.

I've never heard of Digitaka but thanks for the recommendation, I need to get a new casting setup so I'll definitely look there. currently using the Abu Garcia Vengeance combo that sold for $30 at Ollie's since I just wanted to try out a baitcaster, but now that I'm used to it I'd like to get a nicer setup. do you have any recommendations on any sweet deals at Digitaka for any casting rod/reels? Primarily fishing for bass but wouldn't mind catching the occasional walleye or muskie

Sorry dude, I only know about spinning reels and I mostly do inshore saltwater fishing. But in general digitaka also got affected by the tariff. But they are covering 50% of the elevated portion of the tariff. So any daiwa or shimano baitcast you like from various reviews, you can definitely find them in Digitaka. I saw shimano sells their outgoing models on ebay for cheap and they get sold out fast. Might wanna keep an eye on that too.
