Compression helps dress shirts or anything you need to stay flat. Bigger bags I use for regular things that I don't need to worry about.

Compression packing cubes is the same as normal packing cubes. After you pack it up, it allows you to zip/ compress it. This saves space but makes your clothes more wrinkle, especially at the edges because that's where the zipper zips around.

I think compression means they have extra zippers that help you compress the contents of the cubes, in addition to the regular zippers.

For me compression has been game changer. I never felt the regular packing cubes really made much difference but the compression almost feels like a vacuum storage bag.

I have a set of Eagle Creek Pact-It that cost me an arm and leg. Need another set. How are these in quality?

For my money, I would buy the 4-pack regular medium size packing cube deal [amazon.com] over this one 10 times out of 10.

Why:
1) This is a mixed size set. Compression packing cubes are most effective at the smallest sizes, where for example you can squeeze things like wool socks into a tight package. In the medium and large sizes, compression cubes squeeze the corners/edges but leave you with a football shape, which doesn't save you that much space in the end.
2) Cubes organize better when you have more of the same size cubes and not a mixed bag of sizes.
3) The medium size is the most valuable and versatile size. I've traveled the world with only that one size.
4) Cubes are best for organizing. Compression is of marginal benefit unless you're backpacking in the mountains for a week or something, and in that case you want higher-end thinner compression cubes than Amazon brand.

Not as thin and lightweight as Eagle Creek.

No it doesn't. Air in between layers helps reduce wrinkles. Non compression ones have slightly more air between the clothes and the next outer layer (the cube material).

Yes and I wait for them to discontinue a color then buy 4 of them. Right now the green is a bargain. My family has them in gray, red, blue, black, purple, and now green on the way -- which is another great way (color coding) to keep things straight when living out of a suitcase.
