The 2025 MacBook Air with M4, 16GB of memory, and 256GB of storage is being treated as a solid everyday ultraportable, especially for light work and travel. The display and overall portability fit the usual Air appeal, and the M4 model is described as handling normal tasks without much difference from the larger storage version in day to day use. The main concerns are the 256GB base storage and reports that the screen can crack too easily. Costco, Best Buy, and Amazon pricing and perks can shift the value, especially with tax savings, price matching, or longer returns, making it a practical pick if the spec and retailer terms fit your needs.

Common Questions (5)

  • Costco can be better for eligible shoppers because the price is the same but there is no sales tax, and it may include a second warranty plus cheaper AppleCare. The Costco card can also add cashback, though the exact percentage depends on the card and membership.

    DC52NVMedic311KenEsqMedic311

  • The screen has been described as cracking too easily, so extra care is warranted when closing the lid and keeping objects off the keyboard. A protector makes more sense for daily commuting or work travel than for a mostly home-based setup.

    duckeggsmanfromnowherechrisl826

  • The 16GB/512GB model adds double the storage and can deliver up to 50% faster sustained write speeds in synthetic tests. Everyday macOS tasks are not much faster, so the main practical upgrade is storage and heavier file transfers.

    alceryeswhatgooddeal

  • Best Buy price matching can be done anytime within the return window, but it is not available around Black Friday and Cyber Monday even with a Best Buy membership. In that period, the workaround is to return and rebuy.

    AmusedMoon6137SiennaCaribou7271

  • A prior Black Friday deal hit $799 for the then-current MacBook Air, and another shopper previously bought this model for $699 with no tax. That makes Black Friday a plausible time for a better configuration or lower price, especially if you can wait.

Same price at AAFES but no tax so actually a better deal for those that can shop there.

I bought this from there this summer for $699 no taxes. In wonder if that deal will return over Black Friday

this seems like an OKAY deal but the screen cracks too easily :/
I've heard that going back to the M1 MacBook Air and admit I was nervous. I haven't had any issues with my M1, M2, or M4 MacBook Air. I'm careful but I've sat on it (didn't realize it was there) and dropped it and no issues. I do have AppleCare+ either way but I think as long as you're careful not to close the screen with anything on your keyboard you should be okay.

Is there any point waiting for Black Friday because the then-current MBA was 799 on BF

Edit: just realized it's worth waiting for since it might be a 512GB for 799$ or some such deal on the m3 Pro

Oh man, I just went to best buy yesterday and traded in my 15" MacBook Air M2 8gb 256gb (-$550) for an open box 15" MBA M4 16GB 256gb ($959). Now One day later, a brand new 15" MBA w/ those specs is $999.99. I'm going to see if they give me a price adjustment. Otherwise I'm wondering if it's worth it to take the open box back because for $40 bucks more and have a brand new one with a box and all.

if the open box comes with applecare, not worth it. If it doesn't, it's worth it.

and you get 5% off if you use the Costco card which basically wipes out sales tax.

It is. My basic BofA card gives better cashback than Costcos
