This is a very cheap USB C hub that mainly adds three USB A ports and one USB C port at 10Gbps. It is attractive for simple USB expansion, with an aluminum shell and a slightly longer USB C cable than a Lenovo hub. The big tradeoff is that it has no HDMI, no Ethernet, and no separate power input, so it is limited to bus powered use. Reports also point to overheating, tight ports, and unreliable performance with multiple devices, so it fits best as a basic spare rather than a heavy duty dock.

  • The hub can work as a USB-only expansion option when HDMI and Ethernet are unnecessary.

  • The USB-C cable length is slightly longer than a referenced Lenovo hub cable.

  • The aluminum housing can feel nice while the hub still functions for basic USB expansion.

  • The hub lacks HDMI and Ethernet inputs, which limits it for mixed media or network needs.

  • The hub is bus-powered without separate power, which can lead to overheating, overdraw, and crashes.

  • The hub can fail to power storage accessories due to a 900mA total accessories loading limit.

  • The hub may be unreliable when connecting multiple devices or sustaining USB 3.1 speeds.

What's the catch here?
From the reviews it looks to me like it's not reliable at handling multiple devices and/or 3.1 speeds

It's amazon basics so you're the guinea pig as to if it catches fire or damages something. EEK!

No way to separately power.
Plausible to overheat and easy to overdraw and crash (common to cheap bus-powered hubs)

A lot of AMD builds support 20gbps USB-C 3.2Gen2x2 or 40gbps USB4 at rear.
Using this to expand that port, would halve or quarter the max bandwidth.

I bought this hub last week and it was DOA. I returned it. I don't recommend it.

I just got this. It works; the aluminum is nice, but it's cheaply built so the outlets are super tight -- you really have to jam your USB stuff in there with force.
