Oooh, very tempting. I've seen cheaper on no-name brands on Amazon, but actually from a brick-and-mortar store (there is a Micro Center near me) would greatly assuage some of those concerns about malware being shipped with the image.

Minisforum is legit. They are the closest thing to a name brand for minipc.

My last Minisforum was a mixed bag. The first one I got was literary DOA, and the fan was a bit whiny. Everything else was about as expected. However if your power is spotty I'd skip minisforum entirely. The most common failure I see is PSU failure <- EDIT: I meant to say component failure caused by power surge, not the PSU itself.

Is the PSU easily replaced if it fails?

The PSU is external.

I had so many issues with the Intel NAB line from minisforum, but I haven't had any issues with this model. I've installed about 40 of them over the past year plus.

Sorry I should probably clarify on it a bit more. When I say PSU failure, I was meant to say component failure due to power surge, which are two very different things I conflated. I believe my DOA one died on spot, since it booted into Windows a single time. Next time it was just black screen. I have had at least 2 instances of someone told me their minisforum failed, probably because they were in a crowded office.

I have not bought many prebuilt PCs. I bought the EM780 when it was available (the even smaller version of the previous CPU by Minisforum). I turned it on and immediately performed a full Windows reset. As someone else said, Minisforum seems to have a clean reputation. I was between them and Beelink, but liked the smaller form factor. I can't see myself getting a UM. The EM is so small and I love that it is only USB-C power. A couple of 65W supplies around the house and it is almost like a cheap gaming laptop. Also not worth it for me for an incremental CPU improvement that largely maintains the same hardware otherwise.

Does coming from a store matter whether there is malware or not? I figure if its coming with malware, doesn't matter where you buy it.

No, but my point is I have faith in the store that if they discover one of their vendors is shipping products with malware, they will either get it corrected or stop selling those products. Micro Center doesn't want the public blowback from selling malware-laced tech. They can't simply show up 30 days later with a new randomly-generated name and resume selling stuff. Brand confidence matters in brick-and-mortar.

I have less faith in Amazon/direct from vendor to fix such things.
