I'm not disagreeing with you, but it's just not feasible for someone to pump out (physical) engineering work on a non-Windows machine. It's not great, but the choice really doesn't exist for most people looking to just get a laptop. And yes, I precisely mean manufacturing & machining. Welp...

The point is, for someone looking to buy a Windows machine in particular, "just buy a Mac" is not good, sensible, or helpful commentary. That is all.

400nit oled with anti-reflective/anti-glare is going to be a very viewable screen. Glossy screens will need more nit to battle reflections. Also more nit = more power consumption. Really depends on your use case, but this configuration would be the sweet spot, imo.

Macs are good when they can fit your use case, but good luck trying to run most specialized professional software on a Mac. Just unfortunately doesn't work out in that department. Apple does make good laptops, if anything.

I am not sure if this price justifies the specifications offered in this machine. No matter how great display and max out ram they're offering, this doesn't deserve 1100+ price tag.

How's the battery life? Heard OLED models don't have the greatest battery life.
this has an 86 Wh battery. You are right - OLED sucks down battery, but this has a much larger battery.

I'm torn between the Costco Ideapad pro 5i and this (maybe the Ryzen 9 version with 1200p screen for similar price)
isnt the costco one $400 less? Im looking at these too, anything else you looking at?

And windows doesn't?
As a former Windows user, I found it much easier to switch to Linux than I did MacOS. It was easy enough that I now run Debian on my primary laptop. Even my 70 year old parents figured out Debian.

The thing that drove me bonkers with MacOS was the shortcut keys and keyboard layout. Command, Control, and Option? Why, why? Ctrl+click to right click rather than a dedicated button? F5 doesn't refresh the browser? I had to re-think 35 years of using a computer and while yes, much of that is customizable, the minute you switch to your friend's machine, your customizations are gone and you have to remember the standard Mac layout.

All of that is to say - this deal will have appeal for people who don't want to put up with the "think different" part of MacOS. Lenovo plays pretty well with Linux and I'd suggest going that route if you don't want Windows on the machine.

Yes Costco's Ideapad is cheaper but thinkpads are superior in build quality with upgradeable RAM, better keyboard feel, plus anti glare screen (my biggest requirement). I have no clue on the reliability of the Ideapad but I'm leaning towards this Thinkpad with OLED but 32gb RAM for $100 less. I need my laptop to last me more than a decade. My Sony Vaio from 2013 is still going strong but I want to be prepared for the inevitable. It has an additional RAM slot along with onboard RAM but I see many things have changed for the worse since then 😢

400nit??? Isn't that like really not bright at all?
I have the gen3 P16s with the same screen. Even in a brightly lit office enviroment my brightness setting never needs to be set past 70%. It's one of the best OLED laptop screens I've seen.

Please for sake of my peace of mind remove numpad from professional series or give us option when ordering....I can't take numpad as simple as that and love mac design in that regard but can't stand mac OS....I have to let go many good deals for that reason,

an option, sure. But removing it would just piss off the fan base. Not to mention I specifically seek these out every few years because our users want the 10-key.

Recently bought slim 5i from Costco and returned it due to wireless drop and touchpad, got a new one and camera doesn't work, returned ang gave up. Lenovo budget to mid lines are terrible nowadays
