Cheaper ones on ebay. Some with longer warranty for the same-ish price. Besides, if it made it 5 years already, it'll probably be fine for a while.

But who would want this? This is a pretty basic machine, and that battery is getting long in the tooth.

I don't like scratches and dents on my computer and this being the kids version probably got beat up like a Chromebook.

Yeah, the 128 gigs of soldered storage just nukes this. M1 is still a solid performer

How is something with a very paltry 8gb of ram and an absolute joke of 128gb of storage tempting? I mean, how? Really?

-----

8gb of ram was baseline around 2010-2013 -- some machines then had 4gb, but most machines had either 8gb or a more serious 16gb. By 2015, most places doing anything serious with their machines had 16gb ram as the baseline, with 256gb-512gb ssds.

128gb of SSD storage....I can't think of a time when that was normal. Even in the early days of SSDs, such small SSDs were paired up with spinning drives many times that size. The only machines I think that had this sort of configuration (or less) were so-called "Net Books"....Windows predecessors to Chrome Books.

But we're not in 2010 or 2015...we're in 2025. Most budgetmobile phones have specs meeting or exceeding this. I have performance microSD cards in drones and 4k-6k action cameras with larger storage capacities. Not everything needs super-fast tier-1 storage...but without the option to add a second drive, it doesn't matter.

-----

But that's not even all of it....

This machine is an scAmazon/Woot refurbished (aka spit n' shine, usually with more spit than shine) machine....aka a beat up garage sale find. Of a FIVE YEAR OLD machine. And the 128gb SSD isn't their normal base either (it was 256gb). Oh no, 128gb was meant for penny-pinching EDUCATIONAL customers (nothing says "invest in the future" than buying as cheaply as possible for students).

At any rate, these were beat up by children for five years.

90 day Amazon warranty. Even most ebay sellers have a one year "All States" warranty.

-----

For comparison, brand M4 Airs (16/256) often go on sale for $750-$800. I've seen 16gb/1tb M1 Airs sell for used around $400.

This machine, for how utterly beat up it is, for the age, for the grossly limited specs, and for the exceptionally high price....it's not tempting at all. It's ewaste.

If only Apple was a so-called "Green Company", they'd make ram and storage upgradeable. That way something like this with a modestly satisfactory processor could have a second life when things like RAM and Storage need to be bumped up for current day use.

Oh wait.

How do you have so much time to complain about these mac m1 deals? Show me an m1 that i can buy for $400 with the specs you mentioned. Post the better deals.
