Downside? You've got to store all those discs somewhere and in 2025, that's not exactly very "cool".

That's usually true (I supposed theoretically, if your BluRay player is connected to the internet, a firmware or OS upgrade could stop a disc from playing in the future), however you don't technically own the media on the disc either. You're just much more likely to be able to play it in the future.

I've never heard of any digitally recorded CD/DVD/Blu-Ray ever not playing unless it was a hardware problem or disc problem. Blu-ray discs can have internet enhanced content but it is not required to play the disc itself unless the disc is of a type that has to authenticate itself over the internet which is very rare and something else I've never seen. Another reason not to buy something that gives away your ability to use something you paid for.
The quality of physical media is much better than any streaming platform currently available. Even though some claim 4K, "Reality: Even on "4K" streaming, you rarely get native 4K due to compression." - AI
You can also digitize the discs you purchase onto a streaming server if you want that convenience. As for storage, a hundred CDs take up about 2 - 1X1 cubes worth of space in their jewel cases, Blu-Rays more because of their cases, of course, but negligible.
And as far as "cool" goes. I've never thought much about being "cool". People that worry about being "cool" aren't. They have bigger problems.

They will only rot away or have their licenses inevitably revoked by all studios on all platforms in 30 years, but that's a personal choice/mistake that anyone is allowed to make...and I will rightly judge anyone on a deal posting website even if the deal isn't for me because people love hearing from experts (me) about what is good for them.
Why anyone continues to throw money away on these is beyond me when maintaining a climate controlled film negative archive is clearly the superior option.
