I bit on these prior and they are, as best I can describe it, plastic-y. Think "crumple" type material. They obviously won't crack but if you like softer materials you simply won't even wear this. It feels like it would be appropriate to call it a bathing suit but not a bathing suit plus regular shorts (which they seem to be pitched as).

I live in a hot state. Cotton is awful for heat, especially if you are active. It absorbs sweat and moisture and doesn't dry out quickly, at all. Polyester can be ultra lightweight, have UV protection, and be much cooler than cotton counterparts. Cotton being better in the heat is a fallacy. If you have something against the chemical makeup of polyester, that's a different story.
