Why would anyone use a 9v in a smoke detector when you can get 10 year batteries?

Note that smoke detectors do only last 10 years, then need to be tossed.

Are you referring to the 9V lithium energizer batteries you buy or smoke detectors that come supplied with 10-yr batteries?

I often see complaints that sealed 10 year batteries only last a couple years. So many people prefer detectors with replaceable batteries.

My concern about these in smoke detectors is that smoke detectors are designed to detect the gradually dropping voltage of disposable batteries and alert when batteries are low. Would these batteries have the same discharge pattern? Or would that not be a concern for hard-wired detectors which can provide dead battery alerts off of line power?

I bought 9v rechargables a few months ago for my fire alarm with power. All literature online said rechargable will fail when it needs to sound the alarm. I split the diff and placed rechargables into rooms and main areas use non rechargable batteries.

Rechargables don't have a gradual drop off in voltage. it is a cliff. it is good until it's not. i plan on switching rechargable 9v every year

Sealed smoke detectors with the built in batteries.

Not much more than the 9v ones, and no need to change batteries every 6 months.
