Many hybrid string inverters now have "smart ports" and you can plug in your solar that's going into an AC breaker right into these inverters. It's meant to work with any AC input so all micro inverters like you Solar edge or even a generator. You will need to spend much more than this unit but you will get significantly more output as well

I don't see where it lists the inverter as UL listed/certified. Even if you use it offgrid, i assume it won't get a permit from any municipalities in the U.S. Am I mistaken?

Probably it is true. You can power this for your stuff not needing permit (mobile batteries or set up).

You just don't tell them or ask permission. Nothing good comes from that

I'm being super cautious but if somehow the house burn down because of the inverter insurance wouldn't pay out since i don't have a permit for the installation. Unless i'm misunderstanding the scenario.

That Internet myth just won't die. No insurance can deny payment because you don't have a permit. That's like denying payment for your car because you drove drunk.

From my insurance:16 . We do not insure bodily injury or property damage:a . Caused by, or reasonably expected to result from, acriminal act or omission of an insured person. Thisexclusion applies regardless of whether that insuredperson is actually charged with or convicted of acrime. For purposes of this exclusion, criminal acts oromissions do not include traffic violations;b . Arising out of the use or operation by an insuredperson of any car while it is being used to flee a lawenforcement agent or crime scene.

Thanks for proving my point.

Surprising you say this, because claims a denied day in/day out for unpermitted work/non-compliant installations. Neighbor had a contractor install panels on roof, contractor never pulled permit, contractor retires and leaves the U.S. A few years later, roof begins leaking. Claim denied due to unpermitted and substandard installation. This happens all the time, and exclusion language typically has these scenarios covered in 'material misrepresentation' because you're expected to perform legal, permitted upgrades on your home.

It's surprising that you say that because that is not true. Claims are not denied day in and day out for unpermitted work (hence the myth part). Simply untrue. Unless there is some criminal negligence and you basically set your house on fire, claims are paid. You can find code violations in ALL homes, but that's besides the point.
