This barebones MoDT board is mainly a compact, high performance platform for gaming and small form factor builds. The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is described as delivering near desktop class speed with much lower power draw, and the X3D cache makes it especially appealing for games. It also fits living room PCs, home servers, NAS and VM heavy setups, often with modest PSU needs and manageable heat. The main tradeoffs are the soldered CPU, laptop memory limits, the weak 610M integrated graphics, and concerns about sparse BIOS support and higher RAM prices. A strong fit when space and efficiency matter more than upgrade flexibility.

Common Questions (5)

  • Yes. The 7945HX3D offers near-desktop-class performance with much lower power than a 7950X, and the board is aimed at compact builds where heat matters. It is especially attractive for SFF gaming rigs because the CPU is soldered and the laptop-style RAM keeps the platform compact.

  • It can work well for small-form-factor NAS and VM setups, especially when you want many containers or Android VMs in a compact system. For TrueNAS specifically, the extra X3D cache may not add much value, so the non-X3D version can be the better buy for server workloads.

  • It can be cooled effectively in SFF cases, but the CPU can still run hot under load and may need an aggressive fan curve or undervolt. Reported setups include Arctic 140 mm cooling with a 3D-printed bracket, idle temps around 45-55C, and BIOS undervolting such as TJmax 80 with -10 offset.

  • The x16 slot is being checked specifically for x4x4x4x4 bifurcation for multi-NVMe storage, but no confirmed answer appears in the comments. For a TrueNAS-style build, the practical concern is whether the board can split the slot enough to host several NVMe drives.

  • No. The 7945HX platform uses a Radeon 610M iGPU, which is basic display-class graphics rather than a gaming-focused iGPU. A discrete GPU is expected for gaming builds.

My wife plays mobile games... she does not want to spend money but still want to remain competitive... so she needs to run a lot of feeder accounts. She plays 6 accounts simultaneously using Android VMs. Those requires 2 CPU cores each with 4 left over for main PC. Using those MoD CPUs is a no brainer as they run much more efficiently
She's using a 3090 too as 6 VMs running games can suck up over 20GBs of VRAM
Gacha's and rerolls? LOL

I don't have this product, but have been looking at it for a while since it peek my interest. Based on what I read at various sites, it seems this board have quite a few perks. Since it have 16 cores, I guess the intended audience would be interested in a heavy workload. According to CPU-monkey, the 7945hx3D scored a 33450 vs 38640 from a 7950x, it has 86% multicore performance of a 7950x while having a TDP of 77w, vs 175W from 7950x. Similar story to the single core performance, 1956 vs 2205, almost 90% of 7950x. The efficiency makes it very compelling for whoever prefer a smaller setup. They can get top tier performance while keeping heat manageable. The downside is the CPU is soldered in, which won't allow future CPU-swap for upgrade, it also use laptop rams, which limit your DRAM selection.
and those are stock scores. it can be undervolted and overclocked for more performance and cooler temps. I just built a PC with this and a 5080 in a shiny snake l300. my track record is that I just built a new pc r rather than updating processor lol so soldered cpu doesnt bother me

I put this in K49BL case with 48 GB of ram and a 9070 (non xt) as my bazzite console gaming pc in my living room. It rips and produces very little heat due to the laptop variant of the cpu and the 9070 also being very cooling efficient (plus an undervolt applied). If you look at SFFPC reddit there are a lot of people using this board for the same purpose. It's great. Also, they just used it today in the most recent LTT video where they set up their new 16-player gaming setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yanqmc01ck
What fan did you use on your CPU? I used a thermaltake 120 I had and put it in a shinysnake L400 case, and the fan rips once it hits 88-90 degrees, so loud and tons of heat. I tried a thermal pad too. I know the temps are normal for it to operate at due to its architecture but just curious what you used.

Does x16 slot support bifurcation for x4x4x4x4? Thinking about running truenas with 6x NVMe.

I believe I've heard that it does but better check out Level1 techs videos on these, you would probably be better off saving a bit of cash and getting the non-x3D variant of this board though for a server, you are basically spending an extra $180 for cache that won't benefit you much in TrueNas.Purely out of curiousity. What's your use case for an NVME array? I have a HD array that serves me well for large storage, I'm just racking my brain on what I'd do with a NVME array in a non commercial setting lol

I just bought the non3d model on amazon and its arriving today. Mostly going to be used as a 1080p/1440p gaming rig with a 5070. Is this worth the extra $100 for performance?

Power consumption. I don't need a ton of space and I can power 6 NMVe drives for the same power as 1 HDD. Though reading some other reviews seems like the power draw on this at idle might be higher than I'm aiming for.... Although I could run proxmox and eliminate another device then passthrough the NVMe drives to a TrueNAS VM... Hmmm. Gotta crunch the numbers. SmilieThe GPU side is helpful for running frigate and transcoding.

Can someone explain the typical use-case for this? I guess you'd need a mini-ITX case if you were going to attach a PCIe GPU, so what would be the advantage of using a mobile CPU? If you were concerned about power consumption, you wouldn't want to use a desktop GPU, and if you didn't want a desktop GPU, why not just buy a mini PC? I recently bought a Minisforum mini-PC that I'm running with an external dock via Oculink and to be honest I was surprised at how easy it was to set up and how well it works, so that kind of setup makes sense to me but I'm having a harder time figuring out why you'd want something like this. Not trying to be critical of this particular product, just want to understand better.
It performs like a Ryzen 9 9900X3D or Core i9 285 desktop CPU. But it costs less than either of those processors and you get the motherboard included. So you could be talking $300-400 savings for same performance.

I run an Unraid server with an Erying motherboard from Aliexpress similar to this and the integrated graphics handles transcoding no problem. My power draw at rest is around 70-100 watts total including fans with the disks only partially spun up feeding a couple docker containers. So it's not the lowest ever, power draw is hard to pin down because your power supply can run very inefficiently at less than 100w and the fans add about 15-25 watts alone ( mind you my case fans are running continuously )If you want to run one of these lower than the documented TDP you can undo some of the overlocking they do and have it run in a more laptop oriented eco mode, I think you could pretty easily get that TDP down to below 50 at rest.

I never built any Mini-ITX before, and I'm interested in this.
Would someone recommend me a good case for this? Thanks.

Depends on your GPU size or if you want a GPU at all.

The reddit page SFFPC is pretty helpful for ideas. I'm planning on doing a build in the METALFISH T60 Mini ITX can be had for $60 on aliexpress a few people already using with this board. Can put a pretty large gpu in it too

what temps are you getting? I put an arctic 140 with a 3d printed bracket that I found online. I tried the noctua g2 but it wouldnt fit lol. Im idling at 45C also used kyronaught thermal paste and undervolt. l300 case

I idle around 45-55. I could print the bracket and try a 140. How'd you go about doing the undervolt, bios or windows?

bios. I used x86 tuning utility to dial in the undervolt since it doesnt require reboots/bios changes. Stress test after each change until it doesnt crash under load.. then put the settings in the bios. I set tjmax to 80 and undervolted -10. I see people on reddit get higher undervolts, but I couldnt get stability any lower.. i lost the silicon lottery lol then undervolted the gpu with msi afterburner
