This Costco Legion is a strong CPU first gaming laptop with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 32GB of RAM, and an IPS 16 inch 240Hz display that avoids OLED burn in concerns. The RTX 5060 is enough for most games and light gaming at native resolution, while the 1TB SSD has a second NVMe slot for expansion. The tradeoff is that the GPU is capped lower than stock Lenovo versions, and the 8GB card can struggle at 1440p or 1600p in newer games. Battery life, speakers, and Wi Fi reliability have also drawn complaints, making it a better fit for performance and productivity than portability.

Common Questions (6)

  • No, it uses a 16-inch IPS display instead of OLED. That avoids OLED burn-in concerns and is preferred by some for productivity, while others would rather have OLED's deeper blacks despite more reflections.

  • The RTX 5060 8GB is enough for most games at native resolution and is fine for lighter gaming, but it can run into limits in newer titles at 1440p/1600p because of the 8GB VRAM. The GPU is also throttled to 105W here, so it is a bit below stock 115W Legion 5i/Pro 5i configurations.

  • Yes. The 275HX is described as a top-tier laptop CPU and a strong choice for coding, research, and other CPU-heavy work, with noticeably more multi-threaded performance than thinner Core Ultra alternatives. It is paired with 32GB RAM, so you avoid an immediate memory upgrade.

  • Yes. The box is labeled Legion Pro 5i, and the chassis dimensions, weight, cooling layout, and rear-port placement match the Pro 5i more closely than the standard Legion 5i. The Costco configuration also appears to be a custom Lenovo/Costco blend with a lower 105W RTX 5060.

  • Yes, it has a second NVMe slot for storage expansion, with one slot already occupied by the included 1TB SSD. DDR5 upgrade questions came up too, but no confirmed max RAM capacity was established in the thread.

  • No, battery life is reported at roughly 2 to 3 hours in real use, which is much shorter than thin-and-light alternatives. It is better suited to plugged-in use than all-day portable work.

Edit: looks like the threads were consolidated.

I'm probably going to pick one up the next time I'm in store since it's $15 shipping otherwise. Curious to see what the internals look like.

It's live online now. Wish it was at least 5070 as price looks little too much for 5060.

So are some of the other 5060 deals better?

I've been considering this so that I can run a game once in a while, but usually will just use it for browsing, a time when my current laptop is very quiet.

Can you comment on how loud/quiet it is during light use?

It's nice for people who:
-prefer the IPS screen over OLED since they will use the machine for productivity work and don't want the glare or burn-in concerns. It's almost impossible to get IPS instead of OLED with Legion 5 now.
-prioritize CPU & RAM value over the GPU. Other deals I see in this price range are generally Ryzen 7 AI 350 (but those have up to RTX 5070), which has different pros/cons.
-are ok with the extra weight in exchange for a more robust cooling situation +/- maybe slightly better durability than normal Legion 5
-value buying something at Costco for ease of return within 90 days, extended warranty, +/- extra % back with purchase

I would said it's pretty quite, its just fantastic! I purchased mine last Sunday, so we are talking just a couple of days but this is an amazing computer at very good price! Purchasing at Costco is always a plus, also got the extended warranty. Very good computer, you won't regret it!

The microcenter legion 5 deal just dropped dor 800 with 5060.as,well but amd processor. With the graphics card the same, it seems to be a cpu vs cpu race as everything else can be upgraded

The Microcenter Legion 5 has a worse 300 nits 165 Hz 15.3" vs. the Costco's 500 nits 240 Hz 16" screen, a 60Whr battery rather than the Costco's 80Whr, white backlit vs. 24 zone RGB keyboard, Wifi6 rather than Wifi7, lighter vs. more robust body/cooling, beyond the less RAM and smaller SSD as you are referring to. Certainly up to every individual to decide what they find to be worthwhile.

From what I can find, it should be run City Skylines well, especially since it is more of a CPU/RAM dependent game. For "newer games" you'll have to look up the specific game, but the RTX5060 cards and other cards with 8GB VRAM (so less than significantly more expensive systems with RTX 5070 Ti with its 12GB or higher) often run into limitations if you want to go from 1080 to 1440p.
