Apple Refurbished price is $1,269. Most sale prices have not broken below $1,299.
My Best Buy had three open box, two "good", one "excellent". I checked each out - one of the "good" was still in the wrap and appeared unused so I bought that one. It indeed was like new and the power cycle count showed two. Very happy with that for $1,095.

Battery cycle

To check the battery cycle count on your MacBook Pro, hold down the Option key, click the Apple menu (), and select System Information. Then, go to Hardware > Power and look for "Cycle Count" under Health Information. Alternatively, for newer macOS versions, you can go to System Settings > General > About > System Report > Power and find the cycle count there.

Best price on an M5 is $1,439 with price matching Microcenter if in your area (or getting it from Microcenter).

Essentially a $285 difference for the slightly faster processor compared to the "excellent" open box M4.
