A lot of negative comments in this thread. How about a regular family of 5 can actually have a decent Thanksgiving for only $40.

Some of you need to think of it like that. A lot of families are just trying to get by with food on the table and this is a way for them to have a nice holiday meal together.

Not everyone is trying to feed 10-20 people. Just some "food" for thought.

To estimate you typically say 1lb per person so it feeds 14 and that takes all the waste into consideration. Most people eat 8oz or less if you actually keep track.

Most of a 14 pound turkey is waste. You don't get anywhere near 14 pounds of meat off it.

dark meat is excellent, drum sticks and thighs rock! breast of course goes 1st, but I'll have leftovers a few days and nothing goes to waste, even make a broth with the carcass after, and that's amazing. Aldi site has this Jenny O by the # at .77¢ I can't imagine it being antibiotic-free that's for sure nor hormone free. Even without the turkey 40 bucks for all these sides including all the potatoes and breading and stuffing and that jazz is pretty good deal and turkey cost 12 bucks basically.

Why wouldn't people eat dark meat? It's where all the flavor is. Silly. Probably the same folks that choose Wonderbread. Normally I don't troll posts, but if you aren't going to eat the dark meat, then maybe don't buy a whole turkey and waste it. Seems disrespectful. Our local store Hannaford has Turkey Breast for .99 a pound. Buy a couple of those and you got enough while meat for a large group

You aren't going to find cheaper meat of any kind anywhere than that Jennie-O turkey at aldi.
It used to drop for .50 a lb, but that was before hyperinflation.

If you are looking for a convenient smoked turkey for cheap, Sam's is the best option. And yes, it's better than Costco.

You'll get about 40-45% of the weight from it in cooked meat after carving. Rule of thumb is 1/3 lb of meat per person so that's plenty enough for 10 people, hell it would be more than enough for 14 people.

About 60-65% of that should be white meat, so that's still over 1/3 lb per person for 10 people not even counting the dark meat (which, with 10 people, at least one person is bound to prefer).

Unless your family is morbidly obese, or your 10-person family consists of 8 football-playing teenage boys and two dads, you'll be fine.

Just an FYI, this is not a meal kit at Aldi, its them advertising the ceiling price of buying all these ingredients in one of their stores (prices vary between different regions), so you can just buy what you want/need.

As for the dark vs white turkey meat debate, I like both but prefer dark with gravy and white with cranberry sauce.
