User Submitted Deal Sites

LatestHotelsDeals.com [LatestHotelsDeals.com] This site searches and compares Expedia, Hotels.com, Booking.com, Holiday Inn, Priceline, lastminute.com, Marriot and more so you can always get the best price.
www.kayak.com
www.yapta.com Yapta is still BETA... it cannot store information on most airlines. But it will search for your BOUGHT tickets as well, and get you a refund if the price goes down. This is the only site that will do that.

www.itravel2000.com Great booking bonuses (i.e. free giftcards, etc...)

www.farecompare.com

www.travel-ascending.com/ Travel-Ascending Discount Travel
www.cheapoair.com [cheapoair.com]
http://www.cheapflights.com/
http://www.bookingbuddy.com/
http://www.igougo.com/ [igougo.com] Opens up new airline sites in popups (for thorough searches)

http://www.usairwaysvacations.com/ has good vacation package rates that don't show up on the travel searches

http://www.allinclusiveoutlet.com/- have not seen any prices better than this site

www.tripalertz.com [tripalertz.com] this site has great deals they are somewhat new but have gotten a lot of press check it out
you do have to sign up first, but they will not spam you.

http://www.missiontravel.org/- If you are ever going on a humanitarian or mission trip (working with some kind of a non-profit), don't book your airfare until you've checked missiontravel.org first. With contracts from airlines for (oftentimes significantly) lower fares if it qualifies as a humanitarian flight. They can also book air originating from any country, not just the USA.

Let me get my two cents in here too because there is one thing that hasn't been covered:

What does travel always end with? Parking!

1) Kayak.com scours hundreds of online sources for the cheapest fare available. The more flexible you are on time and destination, the better your chances of finding a great deal. Search for dates up to three days before and after your ideal travel dates or on any weekends in the next year. And with the site's Explore tool, you can scan a world map for all the places you can reach within a specified per-ticket price range. It also lets you specify your preferred flight time, vacation activities (beach, gamble, golf or ski?) and weather (based on temperatures).
Kayak can also help you bite the bullet and buy your ticket, or not, with its "price predictor," which forecasts whether fares will go up or down. Enter your desired itinerary and the site will return a list of flight options, along with a recommendation to either buy now or wait for a fare drop. But the tool is not omniscient. Predictions appear with confidence rates and are limited to certain cities, round-trip, coach flights and specific time frames depending on your departure and arrival cities.

2) AirfareWatchdog works best for travelers ready to take off at the drop of a deal. The site has actual people lurking on airline Web sites in anticipation of fare sales. They sign up for rewards programs to snag promotional codes and discount offers that can be passed on to AirfareWatchdog users. Plus, the site includes fares from Southwest, Allegiant and other small airlines that may not appear on bigger search sites such as Kayak.
(Also, in November 2014, the site added a new service, Hotelwatchdog, which fetches hotel listings that offer great values, meaning they have prices lower than similar nearby hotels, good locations and favorable TripAdvisor reviews.)

3) WhichBudget.com will help you build an inexpensive, overseas flight plan by using local, budget airlines — a great way to save on international travel. Select your overseas starting point, end point or both, and the site will list airlines you've probably never heard of that service each route. For example, if you search for flights from Bangkok to Beijing, you'll get options from China Eastern and Hainan Airlines.
4) Several major airlines, such as American, AirTran and Jetblue, will refund you the difference, usually in the form of travel credits or vouchers, if the fare falls below what you paid for your ticket. Enter your flight information at Yapta.com, and the site tracks the fares for you. If the price dips below the threshold your specify, Yapta will shoot you an e-mail or Tweet and walk you through how to collect your refund.

I would also add http://www.google.com/flights as an easy to use flight tool similar to Kayak.

I remember back in the day, when Orbitz came out and it was the bees knees. Before that we had Priceline, but who wanted the risk of getting a crappy hotel or airline, and Travelocity, which was just "meh."

I find interesting that a lot of these links are now dead. I suppose that the big travel sites don't like these deal sites and actively try to squash them. I know several of those sites are now part of the bigger companies.

Here's an article talking about the consolidation in this space: http://www.chicagotribune.com/lif...story.html

I love the quote: "But the biggest development is that travel sites keep swallowing one another with the avarice of the Donner party at lunch."

But the article points out that there are really only four companies that own all the major booking sites.
  • Expedia Inc.: Owns Expedia.com, Hotels.com, Hotwire.com, Venere.com, TripAdvisor.com — plus TripAdvisor subsidiaries CruiseCritic.com, BookingBuddy.com, SmarterTravel.com, SeatGuru.com, AirfareWatchdog.com and IndependentTraveler.com.
  • Orbitz Worldwide: Owns Orbitz.com, CheapTickets.com and RatestoGo.com.
  • Sabre Holdings Inc.: Owns Travelocity.com, IgoUgo.com, LastMinute.com and the gigantic Sabre reservations system used by the travel industry. Travelocity also powers the search on Yahoo! Travel.
  • Priceline.com Inc.: Owns Priceline.com, Travelweb.com and Lowestfare.com.

It also points out that the effort to search for better prices may not be worth it.

Just some recent observations.

I would love to see the lasted compendium of sites people are using.

GTFOflights.com from US to Europe and other places mostly out of the US. Some split tickets and long layovers possible but some good prices can be found.

I have also been happy with googleflights.com and the flexible search calendar and airfare alerts. I also use Tripadvisor and Airfare Watchdog alerts in conjunction with it. We have been to Hawaii this way a few times for pretty cheap.

http://biketrain.net/amsnag/amSnag.php. Although not a cheap way to travel this will tell you the lowest seat or room price on Amtrak if you are flexible. Keep checking back as the first reservations on an added car are cheap and then they go up until they add a new car and start over. You can do flexible searches to find the best price and then go to Amtrak and plug in those dates to get the same cost.

Hope this gives someone the ability to do some exploring.

Found this little site and booked a cheap flight.

www.tripatravel.com

It was cheaper than Priceline and Kayak and most others I checked. Haven't tried the hotel or car rental but I will once I have a chance.

I keep looking for something better than Momondo.com because I hate having to spend so much time switching dates to find trips that are under 24 hr each way to Bali for a decent price, but so far, it's still the cheapest and the interface is nicer than most. Your link was only a few bucks more for my current favorite trip, but I'll keep looking.
