1) Small yards (1/4 acre and under), 2) reports of self-propel mechanisms not being robust, 3) less than stellar Makita performance on the warranties, 4) I'm a Makita fan-boy in most other tools (my primary platform) and stayed away from their electric mowers thus far and don't regret it.

40v is much too weak these days get at least 60-80v if you ever have to mow wet grass otherwise your mower will get destroyed.

I bought this mower at this price at the end of last year. It had a rebate for an extra battery at the time, and if I don't mow my 0.3 acre lawn for 2 weeks, I end up using all 3 batteries. I like the metal deck way better than other electric mowers that are all plastic. My yard is pretty flat so don't really use the self-propel. Only thing that I don't like about this mower is the battery compartment isn't sealed. If you mulch any leaves into your lawn, the batteries will come out a mess and I find myself having to vacuum my damn mower in the fall.
If you are considering this mower, Home Depot also has a bunch of other Makita 40V yard tools on clearance now
