Good deal, wish they'd stop with the rear wheel drive though. It's not a selling point. Front wheel is much easier to use especially when turning. I honestly can't imagine the benefit to the consumer of rear wheel drive on a push mower.

who repairs these things? i use a honda gas mower very durable, and am familiar with Makita cordless tools which are very durable.

should we just take a chance or is this an issue?

This is the makita brushless version, their most premium line, I have the cheaper brushed 36v and its been very reliable so I would assume this is even more reliable. Expect the mower to last as long as the batteries unless you get a lemon.

Website shows shows 3 of the ~10? stores near me has the mower on clearance for $500, and some have quite a few in stock (all the stores seem to have them in stock, too).

yeah, i use honda mowers which run excellent.

the last one i bought the tranny is going out, so i just bought the upgrade model. my first honda mower kinda of runs forever and we do acres of land. i think honda learned you don't have to be super great because the other brands were kinda inferior too.

i doubt the electrc are very good for acreage but it is a wait and see. Makita being from Japan may still be a quality item; i use a lot of their products no problem

I just bought this mower and got the military discount on top of clearance so for $450 i decided to get it even though I have a good quality honda gas mower. my first impressions was it was more enjoyable to use. Very quiet ( i did not feel the need to use ear protection like gas and it is much lighter as well (kinda feels silly to use the self proposition except for hills/longer jobs. it is built well imo almost feels like my honda only things I dont like is the plastic cover for the batteries does not open up enough to hold itself open and I wish they made it able to hold 4 instead of 2 batteries maybe they will change this on later models. over all im happy with it. This mower is for anyone with a small medium size back yard/back yard for weekly maintenance. dont expect to get really good runtime if stuff is really overgrown or doing a huge yard one set of 4ah batteriers ( they do have a new set that comes with 2 8ah batteries that cuts up to a bit more than an acre is $1300 MSRP though ouch!

With no gas, emissions, oil mixing or pull starts, the 40V max XGT Cordless Lawn Mower is a welcome solution for efficient grass cutting. Reduced maintenance lowers operating costs and minimizes downtime. The mower features a Makita-built brushless motor that delivers up to 2,800 RPM, a commercial grade steel deck, and a 3-in-1 design that allows for mulching, bagging, or rear discharge. Rear-wheel drive self-propelled technology provides improved traction and improved performance on incline slopes and uneven terrain. It also features large 9" wheels with steel ball bearings to provide a smoother drive with better maneuverability and increased durability. The mower can cut up to 3/5 of an acre in 54 minutes or less with two 40V XGT 4.0Ah batteries. It is powered by one 40V XGT with the ability to carry two batteries allowing the GML01SM extended run time using the Auto-Switching two-bay battery system. Convenience features include a rubberized soft grip handle bar for added comfort, a folding handle for compact upright storage, and a single lever that quickly adjusts cutting height from 1-1/4" to 4". It is equipped with a rear discharge cover with a mulching plug included. Quiet mode can be engaged which reduces noise by providing constant speed control.
