I can buy 32 containers of ice cream or buy this thing which I have to clean, find a place to store it and then still have to spend money to buy ingredients to make my own. I'll just buy ice cream from the store. And the reviews are such a mixed bag.

Come to think of it, would this ice cream taste better if I substitute some sugar for aspartame?

I posted this deal because it seems like a fun appliance for some people, particularly those with kids. had no idea it would be so divisive.

I feel like I want one, but it's going to be like the french fry cutter that's sitting in the garage

Dailiry Queen, Ritas or Carvel, I'd suspect since they sell hard ice cream in hand packed containers, it's even easier for soft ice cream

Point/counterpoint (sort of) I have great nostalgia for Kohr's Bros frozen custard at the Jersey shore. Great texture, great flavors, so I can see wanting this. But each flavor would be a different set up and cleaning every time you use it, and am I really going to make a whole batch for just two people? So yeah, I guess I'm with you after all... I'll find a froyo place till I hit the shore again.
they were great back in the golden days pre Gen z existence... kid workers not caring about anything. i loved the blueberry custard and the orange was always nice because it's different for a change. being a Gen x er, I know from stories from my mom and grandmother they had always been a go-to place when at the boardwalk, the prices on ice cream are really nuts over the last 3 years and this one's the worst. $7 for a small baby scoop I've seen some places, Ben & Jerry's I avoid, unless it's free birthday deal. $13 a pint hand packed, $4 on sale at supermarket

Thanks for reminding me that I have a French fry cutter sitting in a closet somewhere.

If you or someone in your family loves making ice cream, not just eating it, an ice cream maker is a great investment. My husband loves making ice cream and I get to benefit from his hard work. He's made some interesting recipes as well. One recipe he used whipping cream and it came out super rich, like so rich I didn't enjoy eating it as ice cream, but I found it to be great with coffee. A sort of affogato americano.

The other thing I like about it is, in store ice cream often has like 30+ ingredients in it. Some brands, like Clover or Tillamook, have a dozen or less ingredients, but they're 3 - 4x the cost of the other brands. My husband's recipes are generally less than a dozen ingredients, unless he adds candy like peppermint patties or peanut butter cups cause those often have dozens of ingredients by themselves.

Anyways, he has fun creating and experimenting with ice cream recipes and I have fun being his ice cream taste tester.
Trader Joe's and Sprouts typically has candies with minimal ingredients so he can still experiment without all the unnecessary extra ingredients.
