If you are pescatarian, know that this has chicken broth.

Shrimp is my favorite (actually it's Lime Shrimp). It's the only flavor that has real meat. My partner and I like to compete to see who has the most shrimps and who has the biggest shrimp. My record is ¾".

The beef flavor has imitation soy beef (which is pretty good) while the chicken and pork have nothing at all.

You can ignore the warning not to microwave. Simply microwave for 2 minutes and 10 seconds then stir. No waiting for water to boil and then wait 3 mins for it to cook. Microwaving it saves water and time.

For those who wonder why it says not to microwave, it's put there because of American paranoia. I've seen the Asian versions of this and other brands and there's no warning. Nor should there be. Hear me out of you disagree...

When you boil water, you generally wait until a rolling boil before using the water. That's when it's bubbling a lot. By definition, that water is 212°F. In other words, those cups are made to withstand 212°F. And because the polystyrene foam is an insulator, the water stays pretty hot for the entire 3 mins of cooking, never getting below 200°F. So we can surmise that the cups are safe at 200°F for 3 mins.

Now let's consider microwaving the noodles. Keep in mind that at the beginning, the water is cold, probably around 50-60°F. Then it slowly heats up in the microwave. Guess what the end temperature is after 2 min 10 sec (in my 1000W unit). Only 152°F! In other words, when you microwave, you're exposing the polystyrene to water that's never hotter than 160°F and for only 2 min and 10 sec. Furthermore, it's only 152°F at the end. For the first 40 secs, it's probably <100°F, slowly rising to 152°F. The average temperature is probably around 130°F.

If the cup was made to withstand 200-212°F for 3 mins, it can obviously withstand <160°F for 2 min 10 sec! Try the experiment yourself if you don't believe me. So microwave away!

Nice write up. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a Styrofoam cup. Styrofoam is a brand name for insulation. As an ex Dow employee, this is some propaganda that actually stuck with my. Dow and now DuPont would appreciate you spreading the word that the word you're looking for is actually polystyrene cup, plate, bowl etc. Anyhow, i don't really care but in case you do, here is your learning for the day. Have a great life!

There is one other variety that has real meat in it besides the shrimp. The roasted chicken variety has real pieces of freeze dried roasted chicken in it.

Thanks for the correction. The embarrassing thing is that I already knew that but for some unknown reason, wrote Styrofoam™. I knew because the controversy involves the leaching of styrene so of course, the material is polystyrene. Anyway, I've corrected the post!

I don't think it's real chicken meat. Based on the ingredients, it seems like the same soy-based meat bits that's in the beef. I don't see "Chicken" in the ingredients, which would be the case if there was chicken meat. However, there is "POWDERED COOKED CHICKEN." I assume that the powder is somehow mixed into the TEXTURED SOY PROTEIN to make those chicken bits. While there is some "cooked chicken," it's mostly soy protein. They're still yummy though. It's weird that I've never noticed any chicken pieces in the Roasted Chicken noodles. I'll have to look more carefully next time!

Ingredients of the Roasted Chicken:
ENRICHED WHEAT FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, RIBOFLAVIN, FOLIC ACID), VEGETABLE OIL (CONTAINS ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING: CANOLA, COTTONSEED, PALM) PRESERVED BY TBHQ, SALT, DEHYDRATED VEGETABLES (CORN, CARROT, ONION, GARLIC, CHIVE), CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF: MALTODEXTRIN, MONOSODIUM GLUTAMATE, TEXTURED SOY PROTEIN, SUGAR, CHICKEN FAT, POWDERED COOKED CHICKEN, DEHYDRATED SOY SAUCE (WHEAT, SOYBEANS, SALT), HYDROLYZED CORN, WHEAT AND SOY PROTEIN, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, SPICES (CELERY SEED), YEAST EXTRACT, POTASSIUM CARBONATE, SODIUM (MONO, HEXAMETA, AND/OR TRIPOLY) PHOSPHATE, SODIUM CARBONATE, TURMERIC, DISODIUM INOSINATE, DISODIUM GUANYLATE, SILICON DIOXIDE (ANTI-CAKING AGENT), CARAMEL COLOR, CHICKEN BROTH, LACTOSE, SOYA LECITHIN.

I listed the ingredients above, lifted off Amazon. The 3rd-to-last ingredient is chicken broth. With so little broth, why did they bother to put it in?

There are several brands that make vegetarian options. Unfortunately, they're usually more expensive. I did a quick search and this is what I found. I'm sure there are many more.
