I've had this drive since it was released. While the P44 never had a fix, the P41 did get a firmware update to address the write speeds dropping below the advertised ~6500 MB/s.

I might be a bad use case since this drive isn't anywhere near full and mostly used for OS, application, and some games...However, I'm still getting around the advertised speeds of ~7300 MB/s read and ~6400 MB/s write after nearly 3 of use

You can follow these instructions from a Reddit post covering the process to update the firmware. It was a fairly painless process.

That said, if you can snag a deal for a Samsung 990 Pro, Crucial T500, or WD Black SN850X, for around this price or slightly more, I'd say that would likely be the better find than this drive. However, even if the write speeds do drop, I doubt most people would notice that unless they are doing extremely heavy writing tasks like video or photo editing.

Don't do it.

Over time the cache fills and semi-permanently drops the write speed below gen 3 levels. SK Hynix put out a firmware update to "fix" this bug, but it doesn't work long term.
I have the P44 from Solidigm which is fundamentally the same drive

Thanks, remembered seeing warnings and came to comments to ask if the issues had been resolved (it seems Samsung got their stuff patched okay though)

as DarnCrazy above says, some people do have long term luck with the fix, but I wouldn't take the risk.

it's a real shame. the p31 was one of the best gen3 drives you could buy and the p41 looked like it would be the same

P31 owner here, switched to P41 2tb because of the phenomenal experience I had with the P31.

It's in my Zenbook 14 and it causes the laptop to shut down and reboot randomly. This is with the firmware update.

I'm assuming it just stays as "slow" as a secondary drive, but as my primary, it's terrible

The logged events indicate so, and it makes sense that any failed cache or other caching issues on a primary drive would cause system instability. As a secondary drive, there's low risk.
I also saw similar reports from other users, so there could be differences in production runs.
The issue at hand here is that there is are several inherent risks when purchasing this drive. It's not to say all users will experience the same thing, but all users are at a risk of one or more undesirable outcomes.
