This bundle is mainly a low cost way to get two Moto G Play 2024 phones with a year of Tracfone service, best for a backup line, Wi Fi use, or harvesting the plan. The phones are 4G only with 64GB storage and 4GB RAM, and the included service is very limited at 1500 talk, text, and data units for the year. The bundle also includes chargers and some orders arrived with extra power banks. Main caveats are the slow performance, Tracfone locking, and the need to activate and keep service active for about 60 days before unlocking.

Common Questions (6)

  • Yes, the phones are locked to Tracfone at purchase and are eligible for unlocking after 60 days of active service. The service must be activated, and several buyers report the phones unlocking automatically after that period.

  • Yes. After activation, the SIM can be moved to another compatible phone, and some buyers also transfer the plan or benefits to an existing Tracfone line through the website or chat. If you want the phone itself to unlock, keep the original phone active for the full 60 days first.

  • Activation can reportedly be delayed for months, and some buyers have waited about 5 months or even close to a year. The practical risk is that if the order is delayed too long, you may lose new-customer eligibility before you activate.

  • No. This model is reported as 4G-only and does not have eSIM, so it is a basic budget handset rather than a future-proof 5G device.

  • No. The $40 price applies to new customers using the promo code; without that, the pair is reported at $70. The bundle is also tied to a very limited 1-year Tracfone plan with 1500 talk/text/data units total, so it is best suited for light or backup use.

  • Yes. The 1-year plans can reportedly be stacked if you activate the second line before the first year ends, and the leftover minutes/data can carry over when transferred correctly. Some buyers use the deal mainly to add service time and balance to an existing Tracfone account.

How late could I activate it, my current plan in another mobile service end of this year. could I buy it and hold one month to activate
A couple months should not be a problem. Make sure you have all the port-out info ready when activating with Tracfone.

Still haven't heard a single actual situation where someone needed an "emergency phone" -- when there was no one else around (family, strangers, etc), no businesses around, etc.

I think it's entirely a manufactured need -- all in one's head. So many people can't FATHOM being without a mobile phone surgically attached to their hands...so they think they have to have a spare and a backup and an emergency one. Just in case. For a situation that's simply not going to happen. People got by without them for many hundreds of years. You'll be ok too.
Your posts in all of the tracfone deals are manufactured outrage. Get a hobby, or go fiddle on your $80/mo plan phone. Why do you waste your time s*posting?

The rest of us have e.g. kids, older parents, etc., that we don't want glued to phones (hence minimal text/data), but have a way to reach them (at their # doofus) in an emergency....we're not gonna call random phone numbers and ask if our kid is nearby.....but you do you.

I am planning to buy this for my family who is now overseas. Can this phone be automatically unlocked after 60 days outside the US?
Yes, as long as you activate these phones here in the US with Tracfone and keep the Sim cards in the phones for at least 60 days.
Also, there's a Tracfone Unlock web page where you can check the phone and also submit a request to unlock manually.
As these phones are Wi-Fi calling capable, your family can connect to Wi-Fi overseas and call you here using the plan's minutes.

Also, these phones and the plan can make overseas calls to around 200 countries for free, just using the plan's minutes.
There's an 800 number to call first to make the overseas calls. Search for it.

On backorder. Does anyone know if these don't ship (supposed to ship automatically if they become available in 45 days) if the account you used is no longer a new customer next time you try to avail of a new customer deal? I'm thinking I'll be SOL and wasted my new customer status

Does it have to remain in the US for the 60 days? Or can it be out of the US for the 60 days right after you activate it and use it for a week in the US?

I have personally lost numbers and balances due to incompetent Tracfone CS. Even had one asking me to fill out a 5 star satisfaction survey before proceeding to wipe my account. Their SOP to merge balances may have changed with wrong steps (observed when comparing to TF Mini Guide) so all CS are now trained on bad info. Just use the website like you discovered, don't bother calling.
Yeah TF can be ridiculous. I lost two lines I'd had for years. I think it was because I didn't make a call in a 30 day period (prior to this it was never an issue for me).....at least that's the only thing I can think of.

When I called into CS she said I had called and deactivated the lines......news to me. Asked to speak to a supervisor and he said I had used up my benefits, which would be 12932 minutes, Text 12038 messages, Data 11.70 in one month. Never used the phone that month. Crazy 🙄

Probably should have opened a BBB case (may still), but it's not really high impact for me (daily drive a mobile x plan), I just opened two more lines with a deal like this one. It just added up to a lot of benefits lost because I don't use it much, and was extending the end of date with deals like this one.
But the agents are beyond ridiculous sometimes.....like a comedy spoof the way they will lie right to your face, clueless etc etc. Still, one of the cheapest way to open a line on low use device 🤷 ♂️

I don't deal with customer service. I activate the new phones online using my computer. There is an option for an existing customer. Fill out the form with your existing number information and activate. What will happen is that your old number and time, text and minutes will be added to this new phone plus the new time, text and minutes you purchased. Rise and repeat for the second phone.
After this is done, you will see that all 3 phones appear on your account with only the most recent phone showing as active. Then "activate" your first phone and deactivate the most recently purchased phone.
Interesting, I usually wait 60 days for them to unlock then do a benefits transfer (as they're easy enough to sell to cover the plan, often times more), except for last time

So when you deactivate the most recently purchased phone, will it still unlock in 60 days?

The Moto G play is the worst phone I've ever owned. I bought it so I could have a test phone for my job. It doesn't even do that.
Go look up the reviews it is truly the slowest thing ever, and it should never have been released. It trips over itself so much. Everything has lag. It is a punishment to use.
Motorola in any rational world would not have been allowed to sell this piece of crap

These are nice for low use phones.
I promise nobody's going to use these phones for more than a day. They are so unbearably slow you will want to buy something else.

Unless you're one of the millions of idiots who believe that you can't breathe without a cellphone in your hand 24 hours a day, this is a great deal.

I had lost 12975 minutes,12808 and 21.15 GB back in August on my regular use. Agents keep saying buying new plan and blaming the system. Mad

Low spec Android phones really need to be de-bloated first. It used to be hard but nowadays there are apps that help to great extent. Ask Grok how to de-bloat android phones with apps. You will be surprised. I have done this to this exact phone, it became more than usable for my use case (not my main phone)

First of all, its $70 for the pair...not $40. Not everyone is a "new customer".

Secondly, a friendly reminder -- this plan is not a normal mobile phone plan. You only get 1500 minutes/texts/mb of data for the entire year. Works out to be roughly 4mb of data and 4 minutes of calling per day. Some people can hand-wave that away, justifying it (it's a SPARE phone, use google voice, use someone else's wifi, etc) -- but there's no hiding that it's the barest of the bare bone mobile plan possible.

Thirdly, only a 4G radio and a mere 64gb of internal storage. 4gb of ram. These are just "acceptable" devices.
"a mere 64gb" is some chronically online nonsense
