Do not buy this folks! You cannot sideload any apps at all. Many apps are still broken on the new Vega platform. Avoid!

Many reviews say this is a downgrade from the current firestick.

Plus they have a bunch of crappy Amazon bloatware you cannot get rid of.

my 1st gen 4k max killed itself and can't even factory reset anymore. Self sabotage to force upgrade?

The new select firestick uses software that is based on a closed version of Linux that you can't sideload. The original firestick is based on Android (yes Android is based on Linux) and you can sideload.

I got this a week ago as many know you cant sideload but for me thats not the problem the problem is its extremely buggy some apps lag out and espn sometimes crashes and says content not available for your package when it is. i have to keep retrying and eventually it plays. Other apps such as plutotv are very laggy. it feels to me like its not a problem with the apps but with the OS at handling and allocating system resources. Maybe this gets fixed with software updates maybe it doesnt but I would suggest an android-based fire stick over this for stability purposes alone. Amazon keeps laying off staff and cancelling projects so I would trust their word at all. Buy a product for what it is now not what they claim it could be

in general, stay away from Amazon devices. they typically have the bare minimum specs and locked down to their ecosystem. plus they slow down after a year.
