This appears to have heart rate monitoring. I don't remember the classic G Shocks that were $30-50 having that feature.

I heard it's not a very good "smart watch".

Why would anyone buy this at this price point when they can buy Garmin?

Why is this g-shock watch so thick and rubbery? Oh, I see. It says why at the top of the watch. Protection. Thanks for letting us know Casio. /s

I bought a refurb Garmin Instinct 2 for $190 a month ago that has been working great. It had around 30 battery cycles when I bought it. Real life usage gets about 28 days without activity tracking but if you actually get a lot of notifications and interact with it a lot it does drop quickly.

If you really want this style of watch then the Garmin Instinct is probably better. Casio needs to make these a lot cheaper for it to be worth it.

Casio's look much better imo. I still wear my gshocks every so often, even though my main watch is a fenix 7 pro.

If you just want a little extra fitness data then this is more than fine. But yea I'd guess even garmin watches from 10 years ago are probably better than this for sports and running.

I wonder how well it integrates with apple health. Thats really the selling point for switching to apple is that apple health is an open platform for the most part and lets you feed data from different devices into it.

I wish Garmin would let me do the same for some things. Or at least come out with a ring so I can wear my other watches without losing all my data.

Didn't you know "smart" instantly adds 300% to the price?

This was a great deal. Expired now though.
I'm a big Gshock square fan. This one has the MIP display which has great viewing angles. It's not the classic layout like the 5600's so hasn't gained as much popularity, though

Nah I lowkey agree, I love the classic G-shock design (especially this line) but feature-wise "as a smartwatch" this is just so much worse than an Instinct, from battery, display, ease of use... In almost every measure it is less usable than the Instinct. Part of the appeal with a watch of this type is that they run for very long. I get nearly a month out of my Instinct doing smartwatch things. This SKU hardly lasts a week.

Lol no. Even if you bought an Instinct (the model G-shock clearly benchmarked this off of) at full price you'd maybe pay like $250 these days. If you found a refurb you'd pay a lot less. The lower end Garmins are in a sub $200 range and they still will probably run as long as this and work better as a daily.

The pricing on this G-shock just is not competitive, I would give it a shot if it dipped below $150 but otherwise no. The battery runs 1/4 as long as the Instinct, the display is (while pretty) nigh unusable as a smartwatch, and while the Instinct is able to perform true smartwatch features like deal with your texts and such, this is just almost a fitness tracker and about it. It's just not priced right.
