I got one of these 2.5 years ago. It's had random issues 3 times now that have caused it to stop recording. The only "notice" is that it stops making the startup sound, and there's a red light (though mine's mounted behind the rear view mirror so I can't see it). The first time I had to factory reset, the 2nd time I had to replace the SD card, and I haven't actually done any troubleshooting after the last time since I just noticed a few weeks ago and I only drive the car about once a week lately, so I keep forgetting to check it.
For something like a dashcam, I definitely wouldn't cheap out. There's a good Reddit post here with some better recommendations.

There's no reason you couldn't use the main cam in the back.
