I wonder if the early discount can be partly owed to the jerryrigseverything video that circulated, where his phone ignites/vents after filling the device with sand, holding a lighter to the screen, and bending the battery along the antenna line.
I welcome the discount because I think the premise of that video is clickbait spectacle and not a reflection of anything worth caring about. Invariably someone chimes that it's poor design to put the antenna line there, or how it shouldn't be possible to force sand into the hinge given its IP68 rating. I can strain my credulity to see the point, but frankly it's kind of a "no-shit" argument that sand ingress into a mechanical hinge is possible if you jam it in. What I care about is whether errant particles entering the device compromises its function. Maybe it does! But holding a lighter to the screen and then bending the battery doesn't helpfully demonstrate that.
The jury still seems out on (helpful/practical) durability. Maybe don't give it to your kid if they're jacked. Certainly this is among the cheaper new flagship foldables you can get, and I've been looking to try GrapheneOS when it releases on these (hopefully within the next few months).
I think a more worthy critique is that Google seems to be experimenting with dedicating memory and parts of their chip to 'AI tasks' --- the subtext being that traditional CPU/GPU tasks take a minor performance hit. Some people may justifiably find this to be a completely trash trade-off if they don't use local AI or don't care about its responsiveness. Others presumably won't really notice the difference (particularly if they're not gaming).

The camera is the weakest point of this phone, imho. Samsung came through with the camera improvements on their latest fold, while Google kept the same lenses, they did update the processor though.
Lenovorola Qualcomm is now the best open Android platform... Sadly.
