I just bought one last week. The headband is bumpy, which makes me think it was originally returned because the headband broke and they fixed it with a clunky repair. It functions, but if the aesthetic bothers you, don't buy it.

Look up squaretrade, now called allstate, yes the car insurance company. I've used them many times. They make an attempt to fix it possible, probably not... And they then reimburse you

The headbands have always been reported to be troublesome. The XM4s even more so because they folded. I've had my XM4s for 4 or 5 years and they are still in great condition but they are always stored in the case when not in use.

Similar experience with my XM2- head band cracking started being reported wayyy back when I got my XM2. Years and years later, my XM2 is still going strong with degraded pleather, which is well expected for headphones of its age.

I upgraded my ear pads to the suede dekoni's. They are a lot more comfortable and have better sound quality. I'll do the same with these.
