I've had this coffee maker for close to 6 years. It's the absolute best and fastest drip brewer I have ever owned. It uses an espresso pump to heat the water via PID controller and is very accurate. In order for the carafe heater to be activated you must fill at least 5 servings of water into the resovoir fyi, it does this to not burn smaller prepared servings . It also has some pour over adapter and other custom brew settings. I Got it at tj maxx on clearance for 99. Years ago but if I needed another I would not hesitate at this price...

Is there a lot of black plastic the boiling water flows over?

Not sure I understand. Are baskets for coffee makers usually made of something else?

Does the hot water/coffee touch any of the plastic?

Just spend a little more $ and get a Moccamaster when it goes on sale.

i wish moccamaster would make something that can make BOTH an individual sizes and a carafe (like the Braun Multiserve) - and in an ideal world, have cold brew.
