This ROG Strix G16 pairs a Ryzen 9 HX and RTX 5070 Ti with a 165Hz panel, strong gaming hardware, and upgradeable DDR5 memory. The main upside is the performance package and the fact that the RAM is not LPDDR, so it can be expanded. The display is the weak point, with repeated criticism of the 1080p resolution and 300 nit brightness, especially for a laptop at this price. It looks like a capable machine if the screen tradeoff is acceptable.

  • The laptop's RAM is described as SODIMM DDR5, which supports upgradeability for future capacity needs.

    Dr.WDr.W

  • The Best Buy description appears to conflict with the detailed specs, and ASUS's official spec sheet is cited as the more reliable reference.

    Dr.WBCKit

  • A 30% Best Buy cashback deal reportedly reduced the open-box price further when redeemed as gift cards.

    BrianH5624

  • The 300-nit display brightness is criticized as too dim, which can hurt indoor and especially outdoor usability.

    monkeyass408SplendidHamster4438

  • The combination of a full HD 1080p panel with an RTX 5070 Ti is criticized as an unbalanced pairing for the hardware class.

    torrec37TPMJB

  • Best Buy's listing reportedly contains confusing RAM wording, including an LPDDR claim that conflicts with the DDR5 spec details.

Good near me, this is challenging. I had a 30% cashback on Best Buy too taking another $250 off. Gotta redeem in gift cards. C1S.

Sucks about the sceeen tho. I had a Walmart @ 18% with $1000 max I lost out on.

300 nits is fine indoors, the sad part is full HD on a 5070ti.

I tried looking it up but kept finding people were saying the intel CPU's throttle. Does the Ryzen 9 also throttle or is it throttling the GPU?

This was $100 cheaper not too long ago: https://slickdeals.net/f/18698506-asus-rog-strix-g16-open-boxes-16-fhd-165hz-ryzen-9-8940hx-rtx-5070-ti-16gb-ddr5-1tb-ssd-1131-99?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3ATrue%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arecent%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse&peid=910ef1a2-28fb-4887-82b4-bb879154ab28
Heading into BF and holiday season, these should be getting cheaper, not expensive, and they would be. No reason to buy an open box at a higher price.

16gb LPDDR? Meaning not upgradable? This is 2025... 16gb may as well be 6.... Why would they do this?

Nowhere does it say LPDDR. This has SODIMM RAM and is upgradeable.

As already stated and confirmed that it's not LPDDR5 and is upgradeable. The OP never posts the complete specs but the link I've given above contains it and you can check it there.

Description on BB says LPDDR, but if you go to specs it says memory is DDR5 5600.
So you're both right?
It's annoying (but not that uncommon) that the description on BB conflicts with the detailed specs.

My information and description come directly from ASUS's spec sheet. It's common for BB to mess up the specs; they have done it before, but the official manufacturer spec sheet does not.

Does anyone know if the second hard drive bay is PCIe 5? I've seen some reports that say so and some that say otherwise.
